Hi, My Pdoc recently told me I have schizo-affective disorder. If anyone would like to share what they know or books to read or websites w/more info, I'd appreciate the help. My specific problems are that I hear voices&have for most of my life, & often feel that people are cruel or out to get me for no reason I can figure out, but have just now shared this w/a Pdoc, hence the diagnosis. I take Geodon which sometimes helps&sometimes doesn't. Mainly just new to this&looking for a sense of community w/fellow sufferers-Skymonk

I was dx'd schizoaffective 3 years ago. Like you I've had voices most of my life, and paranoia along with some other things. I have visual hallucinations sometimes and not all my auditories are voices. I do have 2 voices that are constant and have been for 20 years (I'm 33), before that they were different, but still present. I don't have much in the way of help to offer, unfortunately. I can relate and understand, if that helps

I'm currently on Geodon for my aural hallucinations. It has lessened their frequency&ferocity, but I still sometimes hear them loud&clear&they make thinking/concentrating very difficult. I also hear other people's thoughts(not on purpose&I can't direct it at anyone I want to hear)&generally feel that the world is out to get me. Anyone else get these symptoms?

Skymonk... hi...

I'm new here but not to the disorder. I've had the same kinds of things going on in the past (intercepting thoughts, people against me, etc.). Geodon worked pretty well for that, but I had some side effects that forced me off of it.

Never got the voices too bad... they popped up now & then and were mean/insulting but weren't prominent. Mainly I've dealt with insomnia, self-isolation, paranoia, visuals and delusions based on the assessments of all the psychiatrists. Zyprexa worked best for this, but made me gain lots of weight.

I recently took a year off my meds to see if I could swing it, but it's looking like I have to get help again in a bad way. So I'd say stick with the meds and keep trying them until you find the right ones. I've gone downhill rapidly based on what everyone's telling me, and I feel it too.

I wish I could be more help. I hope things go your way, and I'll be around if you have any questions.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the info&letting me know I'm not alone. This is so scary&destructive&I often regret my moodiness&unkind words. Have you ever "lost" time?

I've never lost time, like have it be hours later than last I knew and didn't know what happened, if that's what you mean. That's what I take it to mean, if you meant differently, sorry, but that's just what I got from it. I've had time being weird--I'm not sure how to explain, actually. But I've never lost it, it just acts weird.

I'm talking actual lost time of any kind or length. My Dr said that it wasn't an issue with my diagnoses or meds-said that it didn't sound like me&not to worry about it&quit beating myself up about it. Said that if I were losing time it would be for significant amounts of time that I would notice&that would be happening over&over. That's not happening&has never happened to me. I forget things-short term memory&the words for things&he said that that was normal for anyone sick or not. Thanks for the replyPS I have PTSD that has made my temper bad over really stupid things&has caused fights, but I always remember&usually apologize once I've calmed down. My biggest problem is not knowing how to deal w/stress.
