So, I applied at a local college about a week ago. I'm late, I know. Especially when it comes to financial aid. However, I'm really motivated to do this right now, and there have been very few times in the past where I've been as motivated to do something as I am right now. I've tried doing the whole job thing, but because of the location, time of year, and lack of car to get a job in another town, it turned out horrible. So why not go to college and better myself? Hopefully Tuesday, I'll be able to find out if I can go or not. I'm not too worried about acceptance though.
I was just curious if double majoring and having a minor would be a little extreme? I know of someone who's triple majored. I want to do Psychology (BA) and Behavioral Science/Sociology Concentration (BA) with Sociology as a minor. Would the Sociology minor be kind of pointless with the Behavioral Science/Sociology Concentration major? I'm not sure... What's your opinion? |

Great!
![]() ![]() I'm going back, too, to study Psychology. I start August 17th! I have my AA in Psych. & my BA in Deaf Services w/an Interpreting minor. My goal is to become a research psychologist & I want to put my love of working with deaf & hard of hearing, psychology, & nutrition together. I'm in treatment for an eating disorder & Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), as well as low self esteem & some anxiety. I also want to educate people on mental illnesses, including EDs & OCD. Please keep us posted! I wish you well! ![]() |

I was actually thinking of speaking to one soon, because I have an appointment to do a campus tour Tuesday at 9AM. I want to make sure before I go and sign up for it, especially if it's somewhat pointless to do so.
You must be extremely excited to go back! I know I'm excited to start. ![]() As for what I want to do specifically in the future, I'm still unsure, but I definitely do have time to figure it out. It's really great that you have specific goals. That definitely helps a lot. I hope everything is going well with your treatment. I've been going to a therapist for about four months, but the problem is that all of them, except for one, doesn't have the qualifications to diagnose mental problems. They're mostly for talking, really. Or they do have a degree high enough and they just don't want to work with me. :| I'm fairly certain that I have anxiety to a degree (I some times have panic episodes and various other symptoms) but they happen infrequent enough where they don't interfere with daily life, only when the certain situations are present. I'm also really horrible with self-esteem, so much that it takes a decent toll on my marriage. It's very upsetting. I think that I want to eventually write a book (because I love writing as well) dealing something with sexism and the internet and various things regarding the impact of social sites and the internet in general. Lately, I've been having experiences on MySpace that would be completely inappropriate in real life (and may even constitute as sexual harassment), but it's somehow okay online, because it's a completely different ball park, you know? |

About the behavioral science and sociology, you'd probably get a good deal of overlap, which is quite nice to have. The issue is that you may need to do more sociology courses or more of other courses than you want to take. Also, with such a load, you're more likely to have class conflicts and be just so packed with an enormous workload. So overall, the sociology minor may add additional sociology courses into the mix. I'd try just doing the first year courses and see how you handle under a normal courseload. When it comes time to choosing your programs, I'd try for a major or double major and see how that is for you. Look in your course calender and see how much overlap between the majors and minor there is. If there is a lot of overlap with the minor then you may consider it because it wouldn't require a great deal of extra work. |

Well, I have a tour appointment today, in about an hour and a half. I'm extremely nervous, like I usually get before events. Hopefully today I can find out if they've gotten my GED transcript or not (which is the only thing they're waiting on atm) and whether or not I'll be able to go at the end of the month.
I'll give everyone an update as well as do individual responses when I get back. Take care everyone. ![]() |
