This Wednesday and Thursday we have semester exams. No school on Friday, which is what I'm looking forward to I'm nervous because I almost always never study for tests, and I need to do well in order to get my grades up. Does anyone have good study tips?

Look through the material in the courses and find something that interests you and learn or read about it and work outward. Often things we at first don't enjoy are connected in important ways to things that do intrigue us so it's easier to learn about them because you know about their connections and importance and they don't feel so isolated and boring or difficult.

Whenever I haven't wanted to study I try to make it fun for myself, write a poem or story about the material or try to relate it to something that seems totally unrelated like James Burke did in his TV series, "Connections" :-) http://www.k-web.org/

There have been several studies done that show 3 important things (that I have found to be true also):

1. A good nights sleep does much more than staying up and cramming. Study a few hours and take a break. Don't avoid everyday things like eating right or sleeping well to study because it WILL backfire.

2. Look nice! There have been studies that show when you make an effort to look nice on the day of a test you will feel more confident and do better on tests.

3. Sit in your normal seat. Other studies have shown that when you sit in the same spot for a test that you sit for class you recall more info simply because of your location.

My worst classes are chemistry and math. Not because I don't understand it, just the sheer volume of information. And I have found (in chem at least) for every hour I study, that equals about 10% on a test. So I have to study at least 8 hours to get a B usually. I study in the same spot every time and sit in the same spot during the exam making sure I get at least 8 hours of sleep and I try to look nice so I feel better also. I promise you, in 5 years of college, those are the 3 things I have found to be proven. Good luck!

Wow..who woulda thunk it? Makes sense though Thanks for the info. These are my results (or close to them if I can't remember the exact grade)

Art: A (mine and another girl's set the curve!)
Biology: B- (this one was HARD)
Health: B-
World History: A-
Geometry: A-
English: B+ (I was disappointed - I thought I'd done better)

Those are excellent grades! The only one of those I could really help with is Biology so feel free to PM me if you ever have any questions.
Thanks for this!
