I have a class that meets once a week. We have to go on line to get the articles we have to read for class. However, the professor often (every week so far) does not post the readings (and there are a lot of them) until a couple of days before class. As I can take a long time to read things, I really need to have my readings before that. It is really annoying me that she isn't getting them posted earlier. I had free time this week that I would have liked to be able to read the articles for next week, but they are not up yet. Ugh, so annoying.

Hi Googley,
This does sound annoying. Can you write her an e-mail telling her how you feel? I'm sure you're not alone in this complaint. Everyone reads at a different pace. Plus, I imagine it makes it hard to prioritize. ![]() |

can see how that would be annoying. perhaps it might be best to vioce your concerns with him / her and ask if they can't let you know things in advance

Googley - have to agree. It is not unreasonable to ask the prof to post things earlier. He or she may not be able to comply due to their own schedule or due to not enough planning ahead. Still, it's worth a shot to ask. Good luck!

I agree, too--as a former college professor. It won't hurt to ask, if you do it politely. Maybe something like, "I really am enjoying the class and the readings, but I really need some extra time to get the readings done......" (Well, don't lie--ha--but we're human, so if you feel comfortable with it, some buttering up doesn't hurt!)

Never hurts to ask indeed. The worst she'll say is "no". I'm also guessing that if you have a problem with it, others do as well.
My situation may not apply to you, but I have accomodations based on my (many) different disabilities, and one of them is about readings and posting them in a timely manner (and if they don't post readings/slideshows, I still get them as part of my accomodations).

Googley, I am in the same boat. My professors (not just one!) routinely do not post articles and other documents for class until the morning of class, sometimes only an hour before. So people without a laptop growing out of their abdomen don't get the docs. And even if you do get them the morning of, there is not enough time to read them if they are articles. I think a lot of the professors think its fine if they post stuff one minute before lecture. They are being very inconsiderate and not doing what they could to make life easier for the students. It just shows an attitude of rudeness, IMO. This week one of my professors posted an assignment 3 days in advance and that was great. I downloaded the document and did the assignment. The night before the class, the professor posted an "updated" assignment. I downloaded that and it was different in a number of ways from the original. I was too fed up to redo it. If she marks off the assignment I completed and handed in, so be it. There is only so much time I can devote to my studies and I do not have time to repeat assignments due to last minute changes by the professors.

Thanks for everyone for agreeing with me. I will bring it up with the professor.

I have a prof like that. He's actually my adviser. I take an ecology class with him and he will send powerpoints or notes or articles all the way up until 20 minutes before class.
Have you tried asking her about it? Are other students in the class as upset about it? |

So this problem has gone away. I got offered a job and one of the shifts takes place during this class, so I am going to have to drop it. I really need the job. I can't wait until something better might come around.

I hope if you take the same class in the future that there is more than one prof teaching it so you get a different set of circumstances.
