I have this teacher, he 28 and married. Lately ive been feeling down and my friends recommended that I go talk to someone, so I went and talk to him. I must have said something that freaked him out because the next day I was in the school councillor’s office. I felt so mad at him for betraying me like that. But I understand why he did it. This has happened about 4 times now, I try to believe that I can trust him, but he betrays me like that, I get so mad at him, yet I still trust him.
Why do I feel like I can place so much trust in him knowing that, im just going to get betrayed later? Lately in class, he is always avoiding me and it seems as though he’s really really mad at me. This is really upsetting me ![]() |

Hi, Pele. You didn't say what you have shared with him, but if he is really worried about your mental health, then he is feeling obligated to share your issues with the counselor. This issue might not be the one you're dealing with--but if you are sharing about abuse you are experiencing, then teachers are required by law to report it!
I did a lot of confiding in one of my teachers when I was in high school. She said the counselors had been wondering what was wrong with me! In retrospect, I wish that she had suggested that I go to talk with one of them. He is probably feeling awkward--wanting to help you, and by referring you to the counselors, I suspect he believes that's the best way he can. Is there one of the counselors that you can feel comfortable with--please give them a try. After all, they do have the training as professional "listeners" and he doesn't! Okay? ![]() |

Teachers aren't counselors, and we really are told to refer students to the experts on campus. I imagine this teacher is feeling very uncomfortable continuing to hear your problems. He is not betraying you by talking to the counselors; he is doing exactly what he HAS to do. In the future, cut to the chase and go to the counselors for those kinds of needs. I doubt that he is mad at you, but he probably is avoiding you so as to not be put in that position again.

Well, depends. I mean for me I kinda always know Pauline gonna open her mouth about anything I dare tell her, so why I tell her of all the people whom I loved, my involvements with Cotsanas, and pretty much everything is because she pressures me into it, and it's not like I am risking my safety, so at that m oment in time fear doesn't stop me. And, also because she already knows from going through my stuff, so I figure I may as well admit it, it's the truth, she needs to know the types of people she's around.
