Let's just say that school is causing me a significant amount of stress.
I feel like a dumb person because I'm only taking two courses this semester (to make the course load easier on me), and yet I'm so behind on my work! I'm behind because shock treatments made me forget about what work I was supposed to do, AND because I've been depressed very recently. (Could it be related to the fact that I started lithium recently?) I'm embarassed to admit to my teachers that I'm so behind in school, because they've been so nice and understanding towards be so far. They understand what I'm going through, and I feel like if I just get more time to do my work, I'll be "taking advantage" of the school system. PLUS, I'm so unmotivated! I don't even know if I can muster up the motivation to start working. Has anybody ever been in this situation? What should I do? Sorry for the rant. ![]() |

Dear Melissa,
I wish I knew just the right thing to say... What I do know is that you are not dumb or anything else like that. You are suffering with a serious illness and obviously trying really hard to do what you can to care for yourself. You deserve so many kudos for simply following the course of treatment prescribed for you. It is amazing that at the same time you are attempting to hold down your school work as well. It is totally understandable to feel overwhelmed. You don't have to carry this alone on your own shoulders. I think you should tell your teachers what is going on. Maybe the meds will even out soon and you'll get a little push and energy again. The most important thing is to take care of yourself, which is what you are doing... Many hugs. Elana

Thinking about you... Have you thought talking to a school counselor?

Thanks for replying.
I think I will chat with my teachers and/or guidance counsellor tomorrow. Hopefully they will understand where I'm coming from. I'm so scared that they won't understand, but it's a risk I'll have to take. |
