I just got my schedule for 10th grade and I'm not sure what one of the classes is. The class is English IIU: ContRead. What is the class about? Is it a 'higher level' class or a 'lower level' class?
![]() I hope someone knows what it is.

I'm not familiar with the levels anymore to answer you directly. However, if I really wanted to know, I would contact the school, or ask my parents to contact the school, or contact a counselor/advisor there to find out where this one fits in the various levels to help give me an idea. This can also help so you can verify if you have been placed correctly. They are the only ones who can really tell you, as each school system has their own system for each level being taught. Worth a try so you are not left wondering. Good luck!

Thank you Fresia,
I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about it. My friends (who are on the same grade as me) have the same class, so I think they have me in the right class.

Most schools have their own names for classes and levels. It is unlikely that people here will be able to answer your question as we are not familiar with your system. Fresia is right that you or your parents should contact the school.

Don't feel sorry. It's okay. It never hurts to ask. If you don't ask you don't know.

Does your school have a website? If they do check if they have a Program of Studies, or some form of a list of classes offered somewhere on the website. Mine does and it has all the classes offered with descriptions and their level in it, as well as school policies, info on standardized tests, GPA, class rank, college etc...if there isn't one online someone at the school should have one or the info you need.
Good luck ![]() ![]() |

If you happen to have your student handbook, that'd be the first place I'd look! In our student handbook, they have a list of every class and what they are about.

I don't know from personal experience what it is, however, I looked up the curriculum for Tennessee and I think it is one of two possible courses. First, "content area reading", which teaches methods of reading and word analysis to be used not only in English but also in math and social studies. It seems to also teach some basic linguistics, such as decomposing words into phonemes.
http://www.tn.gov/education/ci/english/doc/ENG_3081.pdf Second, is English II, which teaches grammar for writing and speech through individual and group work for writing to various audiences in various ways (i.e. stories, poems, speeches, etc...). It also teaches editing skills, basic research skills (i.e. verifying sources are credible and not bogus). Lastly, it teaches basic logic for composing sound arguments. This last part I have personal preference to because I enjoy engaging in formal debates, so you would also learn how to counter arguments in the form of thesis-antithesis-"new thesis". http://www.tn.gov/education/ci/english/doc/ENG_3002.pdf This doesn't mean you will have either of these courses because your school may use some other course, so this is just meant to be as best of a guess as I can give. Many schools post content online so you may be able to find your courses online or e-mail the teacher or principal. Good luck in your studies! |

filensave,
Yes, my school has a website, but it's not a good website. They don't have a list of classes, they only have a list of teachers. I triesd to look for the class, but I couldn't fing it anywhere. Freshman seminar? We had a class like that, but it was called freshman focus. siljie, I don't have a handbook because you had to buy one and I didn't have the money to get it. Oxidopamine, The first one sounds possible. ![]()
