Here's the situation, all I want is some input on what to do.... since I don't know....

I have Depression and this semester has gone like this....
First week, in the mental hospital
Second through sixth week, able to go to class...
Half way through Sixth week to middle of seventh week... in the hosptial again

I just got out of the hosptial two days ago

I am taking General Chemistry (2nd half), Physics (2nd half 112), Labs for both classes, Band, and Abnormal Psychology

I'm almost done with Abnormal Psychology, one more week and then the final.... and the rest....

General Chemistry- I'm struggling with the concepts
Physics- haven't read through the chapters
Band- that one I could stay in even if I drop out

What would you do, in my situation?

If you feel like you are not totally stable and the semester is being incredibly rough on you take the medical withdrawal. Maybe do it after you finish Abnormal Psychology??

I would talk to your counselor to see what they suggest. When I was hospitalized, I took the rest of the semester off. (It is hard to catch up if you can't even attend class!)

What do you think? What do those close to you think?

Are you in the US? Most colleges have a student disabilities office. Have you talked to them? or are you already receiving accommodations?

I am glad you are feeling better. I would talk individually with each professor and explain the situation and ask how to proceed. There is usually some sort of procedure for completing 'incomplete' coursework and you can likely find a tutor to help you with the concepts. I send you love and courage.

I did talk to one of my professors, and he is unwilling to help... he actually said that a withdrawl would be my best option.... Big mistake for telling me that... it just makes me more determianed to prove him wrong... That's right I'm not withdrawing... I can make it through this, and my meds seem to be the right combination... and I'll be working my tail off to prove him wrong and get a high grade on the exam... Take that.

So part of that was a bit of a vent, but I feel better about this now... I guess that's what I needed.

Ok, then you rock! Some professors have forgotten that they are there to help students. I believe you will do well on your exam.
Thanks for this!

I think it's a great you want to prove him wrong, however, if you truly find you don't understand the concepts enough, even with assistance, don't be afraid to drop the course. I'm not encouraging you to drop, rather I think it's best for you to keep all possibilities open. If the professor was for physics, I can understand his view because you posted you didn't read the chapters, which is problematic in the eyes of most professors as it shows you may not be committed. If he wasn't the physics prof, then he has lost sight of part of his job: helping students.

If you want extended time to complete coursework, generally you need to talk to the administration simply because the professors don't have the necessary authority.

I would just like to say reading the above has got to be a decision you make , you may find it helpfull to try breaking your study up with quality time doing somthing you enjoy, it may be you are trying to do to much and i have found by giving your self a break and going back to reading chapters it helps to obsorbe the information we are reading, also by going over the chapters a few times, good luck and give your self credit in being determined to complete your courses but also tacking part in doing them
