So, Its the second week of missing this class in a row (can't leave my house AGAIN!), I have reading week next week, then a mid term. I just dedicated my life and energy to the essay, and now it looks like I'm going to have to drop! I feel like suck a god damn failure...

whatcha taking at school if you don't mind me asking? i'm feeling the same. i feel super self conscious at feel super inferior to everyone in class. it feels like i can't compete. im talking film and it's supposed to be team based but i feel judged against people who have more gear than me, a car for transport or programs and stuff. gah

I'm in theatre, or was. I'm currently taking a religion course and was taking a english course. Film and theatre are similar, but idk if film has mandatory attendance. lose 2-3%/day missed. 3 days missed max before you're threatened expulsion from the course.

One, failure is not fatal. Two, even if you have to drop, dropping is not failure but gives you a chance to regroup to figure things out moving forward.

I did have an advisor once say that it can be better to go through a class to get exposed to it even with a less than desirable outcome than to drop it because by being exposed to the material the first time, it is less you will have to pick up the second time around and also there may be hope of salvaging it that it may not turn out as bad as you think in the end. Talk to the professor. See if there is help available, such tutors, or other students can work with.

If you are going into a field where the end grade matters such as going on for higher education beyond this, or for financial aid to stay off probation, or to stay in a program, dropping may be necessary. Check first to see if dropping (to lower hours) versus a low/failing grade will affect your status in these areas in any way before deciding.

No matter which is the best option for you, do what is best for you sanity. Hang in there and good luck!

Hey Switch,

Do you have an academic advisor, or someone who is a disability advocate that you can talk to so you can possibly get accommodations made for you? Having a disability or issue can really take a toll if we don't have the support we need to be able to succeed.

It is not the end of the world dropping a class. Many people do it. Many people also flunk classes - I've flunked a couple myself.

Hey Switch,

I am sorry you are having a hard time. I can't offer much help however I really liked what Christina86 said and what Fresia said.

I have had to drop courses and it's not as a big deal but I hear you wanting to do this. Have you been able to talk to your professor's. That helped me.

I just want to give you a and ask you to not be so hard on yourself. The Disability services are a great idea.... I think it would really help.

Take care,
Crew

I can totally relate! Sometimes, it all just sucks. Take a few breaths, cuddle with something if you need to, and try to be nice to yourself (yeah I know; I whole lot easier said than done).

Try thinking about some things you're good at and appreciate about yourself. Write a list. MAKE yourself see where you have succeeded. I've been struggling with running away from failure for a long time. It helped me to try and put it in perspective. Even though it'll still be really tough, it gives you a break and hopefully a little relief to remember things you've done well .
