In high school you could pursue whatever you wanted

In college you can only pursue what you're good at....and chances are its gonna be something you hate

Why are you (a) not good at what you enjoy pursuing and (b) pursuing something you don't like?

School was a piece of cake for me, it was the jobs afterwards that didn't match anything I wanted to do particularly.

It was the opposite for me. High school I had no freedom and I could not choose anything I wanted; now all the choice is mine, and am doing much better. Even with some of the core classes that I was not as interested in, because I knew the ones I was interested in were coming soon.

I'm with Perna. Can't you pursue something you do enjoy and are interested in doing?

In high school, I had to take obligatory subjects I couldn't have cared less about, like physical education and some ******** they called "Career and Life Management", which was mostly about how to get a job at the local gas station and not catch an STI.
In uni? I got to choose what I liked, and focus solely on that - not that it was all the most thrilling information I'd ever come across, but still!

I had very little freedom in high-school compared to university. In high-school, I did all science courses but it was always obscured by courses I had no interest in, such as English, history, P.E., Civics/government and Careers. In university, I had to take one credit in humanities, which I didn't care for but once it was out of the way in first-year, I could take the courses I wanted. I was able to pursue specialty areas, such as neuroscience in immense detail without having to worry about some piddly mandatory course. Admittedly, some university courses I liked but wasn't that great in because no matter how much I tried, I couldn't get my head around the material, so I avoided those courses. Most recently, I got to take research-based lab courses and give lectures on topics I loved, and not just read a book and do tests.

I'm not in university, but high school felt more like an open prison to me. Yeah, you could walk out, but you were legally forced to go to school and put up with all the bull.

I miss some aspects of secondary school such as the structure and ease of the lessons, but there's plenty of things I don't miss.

I liked (FE / community) college though, unfortunately because of my personal issues I didn't make the most of it, but I made a good friend there and enjoyed the classes and I got on well with most of the lecturers. I did a Science BTEC which I did fairly well in, but didn't continue it to the next level.

I'm not attending a university now, either, but when I was I had never felt worse in my entire life. It was like being in a prison the entire time, socially, financially, and academically, and now I am involved with a legal dispute with said university. High school was superior to university for me in every way.
Thanks for this!

Maybe it partly depends on the school. Getting the right match is important. I loved the university I went to, and I was thrilled to finally get out of high school. Part of the thrill, though, was being able to get away from home!

I hated high school. Too many rules (most of them were utterly absurd), ugly and uncomfortable uniforms (uniforms are the norm in my country, even for public schools), people forming "groups/cliques" and excluding other people... ugh. Uni doesn't really make me jump up and down, but it's a little bit better. Either way, I'm shy and an introvert. Being surrounded by people is difficult for me by definition. I don't have any real friends at school... maybe one or two. The only thing that makes me happy is the fact that I'm majoring in Visual Arts (not expecting to become famous or anything. Haha. I'm simply following my heart).

Thank you all. Now I'm actually getting sentimental and can't bear leaving people behind.
