I start every semester out with a bang! I do well on assignments , make due dates and even jump ahead. I'll have an A in the class. Then when I'm half way thru everything seems to fall apart, I lose focus, I have to force it, then ultimately I either withdraw or just fail the class by not doing any of the work. I've done this so many times that I'm now unable to register for fall classes until I see an advisor . I don't know if its work or what.......

Have you talked to a T about this? It sounds like you are self sabotaging and you don't realize it. OR, maybe it is due to the time of year, lack of daylight and you don't do well that time of year, some people really struggle in the winter, early part of the year when it is cold and days are short, you know "seasonal affective disorder".

Can kinda relate to that, usually start the beginning of a new college year being motivated, keeping up with everything and so, then before the start of January it just gets really hard to stay with the stuff that needs to be done for college. This is partly why in the last 2 years we quit 2 studies after only a few months. This year hopefully we will be able to keep motivated.
Think (and really hope) for me part of the reason for not continuing was simply cause we didn't feel like belonging to the university kind of life, so decided to find a new college that is more classical, has more structure, has more practical stuff and so. Just hope you can find some kind of solution for the loss of motivation, but yea it's hard to have to force yourself to continue..

This happens to me too. It might be like this for you too, but for me it has to do with stretching myself thin. I go to all my classes, do all my assignments, work really hard, and basically give everything 110%. Except you can't keep that up for long. Eventually, I just run out of steam. Then when I can't give everything 110%, I feel like a failure, so I pretty much stop trying all together. It's like the first time I miss a class, that's the beginning of the end...
This semester is going to be different though. The minute I get my syllabi for the year, I'm going to sit down and plan it out so that I don't get overwhelmed half way through. I used to write down in my calendar when all the exams were and essays due, but I think I need more structure than that. Maybe go through and break down the chapters that might be assigned into pages per day, but giving myself some wiggle room like planning on not doing homework every day. I'm thinking about talking to the professors early on to see if they have some advice or some time management help or something. But yes, I'm in the same boat. I'm not going to be able to get my BA until I can prove that I can survive a semester without withdrawals or incompletes. |

Yep I can relate. But I have ADHD so that's probably why. I'm fresh at the beginning of the year, but by halfway through, the novelty has worn off and I just am not committed, not motivated, and fall apart.
There are also other factors that you may want to consider tho- halfway through, its been winter (depending on where you are in the world), the weather has been worse than it normally is, the holidays are stressful, finals may have taken their toll, etc.
