I'm taking two classes and one of them college algebra is stressing me out to no end. Like I have remember a bunch of formulas, rules, and processes and omg sometimes I freak out, well recently I've been have really bad anxiety problems while doing tests and quizzes which made me get a lower scores. I've been only seeing my therapist once every two weeks, so I'll prob change that to once every week. On top of that I've got a cumulative final for math and a midterm in art where I have to draw five different objects in the correct proportion and composition. So anyone feeling the burn of school like me? I think the stress has caused me to get into a funky depressed episode. what should I do to alleviate my negative symptoms?thanks

Aw...I'm sorry to hear about your stress! I feel your pain. I have been in college since 2009 and took algebra over the summer. I still have three more semesters to go.

Honestly, the best thing that can help alleviate stress, for me, is to stay on top of stuff. Do NOT procrastinate. It will bite you in the bottom down the road. Also, take small bites out of assignments. Don't think about that ten-page paper in whole. But rather, do one page/day and start early! I also have a least one day I dedicate to family time "me time" as well. And hey, if you are feeling stressed out, feel free to PM me.

Definitely know how you feel. I haven't had a huge load this year but that was definitely me a year ago!

I definitely agree with KissedbyFire. Take it slow but make sure that you are consistently doing a little bit of work so that you don't get behind. And taking time for yourself when you can is also extremely important.

Just remember, it will end. It is stressful now and a lot of work but it will be worth it once it is over and the crazy time of assignments and exams will end.

Get behind wanting to learn the information for yourself and when you are doing the tests and quizzes, remind yourself you are doing the best you can and it will be okay no matter what. School is not about the grades, it is about you and what you learn for you. An algebra problem is just a "word" problem; it is like writing a paper. You find the structure, the topic sentence, and then put everything neatly in order, fill in the blanks, and you get the final "answer".

There are word problems all around us, like your situation: you have two courses, algebra and art, algebra is giving you anxiety in test-taking and quizzes and art requires learning proportion and composition.

In algebra, concentrate on the quizzes and they will make the test-taking easier because you will have done the quizzes well? Write on each quiz when you get it back what it was quizzing, re-do the problems you got wrong until you understand them so you literally cannot get them wrong again on tests. Make a list of the formulas, rules, and processes and flashcards or something (or just take a large piece of paper and "draw" their relationships or write their story in words or rhyme).

For art, carry around a small sketch book and start sketching items all around you, all the time. If you eat a certain place in a certain chair, draw an item and then change chairs to get the item from another perspective :-) Draw easier, square items at first like bookshelves and tables and then work on straight chairs then couches :-) Draw a picture of the picture on the wall
