I used to be a paramedic but no longer do that after a car accident left me with a bit less strength than I used to have. I have floundered about with a couple of different menial jobs but have not felt challenged or fulfilled. I have decided to return to my first love of medicine! The problem is that I am so very overwhelmed right now!
It's not the classes that scare me but I find the application process the most daunting of anything. It's been a long time since I have been in school and I suppose that old demon called "You're Not Good Enough!" is rearing its' ugly head. I am experiencing major anxiety about this. There are those entrance exams and the competition with kids half my age scares the hell out of me!!

Any suggestions you guys? Thank you.

Don't let the age of the other students get to you; they are struggling, too.
Break everything down into small piece and handle one piece at a time. Try not to look to far into the future. Concentrate on what you have to get done today. You'll get through it. Best wishes.

Also, I am sure you have a leg up on those other students because you were trained and worked as a paramedic!

Just do the work that is in front of you for that day, as gayleggg said. If what you need to do today is study, then set aside time to do that to the best of your ability. That is all you have to do.

By the way, when you do get to nursing school, you are going to find that many, if not most, of the students are older. Nursing is a second career for a lot of people.

Nursing is a noble profession, with opportunities to do so much good in the world. Best wishes on your new journey.

I wouldn't worry about age, I have had classes with people as young as 17 and as old as 65. Education is such an important thing and is always valuable.

Are you taking the HESI or TEAS? I originally went to school for nursing before I changed majors and went back. We took the HESI here, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be.

Best Wishes!!
