Well, in school and everything I used to do, I always pushed myself way harder than I needed to do be the best at what it was compared to other people at my "level." Awful, right? I was basically trying to be the most superior. However, I think all the other kids were as well. And now I'm admitting this problem. It's wrong for me to want to "be the best." I'm thinking about what I want to be now, and I'm even considering not going to a prestigious University, but one that's easier and more laid back. I also want to work at a slower pace. However, I see everyone else my age either is very lazy and laid-back or an overachiever who considers themselves very superior to others. I don't want to be part of any of that.
Do I seem to have a problem? I mean, am I just allowing myself to become more lazy? Do other people my age have a problem, or am I reading them wrong from all the times I was bullied by my peers in the past? |

honestly, I don't think its a bad thing to push yourself to be the best you can be. just don't do it so much as to where it completely stresses you out. your life seems to be headed in a really good direction so be happy

Thanks Jess113. I agree with you. I think it's best to do your best. I'm definitely most happy when I work hard at things. I'll just try to not compare myself to others.

Yes, get personally involved in the work rather than with how it "looks" or what others are doing, etc. Study for yourself at the level you enjoy; if it isn't fun or useful to you, personally, right this minute, fall back and regroup and come at it some other way. Study something because you want to, not because it is required or to prove yourself to others, etc. The world will not fall apart if you hate English literature and only get a "C". Have fun with it (my husband wrote a paper arguing that Robert Frost's poem about the fog creeping in on little cat feet was "stupid" (he didn't like Robert Frost at all, it was about him rather than the poem) :-) The purpose of your education is that it is for you, not for a grade or for someone else.

Hello, Breezy~Day,
It sounds like you have an idea of where you want to be at. I wouldn't focus on the attitudes of your peers. You know you best of all, and you know what would work best for you. One of the best things to do is to focus on what makes you happy. You will find that once you start college/uni that people change a lot. I am always surprised to hear about people I went to high school with and where they are at now. Best Wishes! ![]() |

I agree that it's good to push yourself to be the best you can be. Just not to the extreme that it hurts your emotional state. I understand where you're coming from as I push myself way too hard and have done it way too long...especially in school. Well life too. In school, I compare myself with other students and when I don't get that A on something, I beat myself up and tell myself I didn't do a good enough job.

It's good to push to be the best you can be. BUT that's not being the Best You've Ever Been "be"... because things change.
Time, age, ability, situations and environments and in this case, course curriculum all change. So you must not remember how you "used to be" when you did your best...and instead create a new "best" for right now... Be the best you can be for right now. And accept that maybe you could have done better "if" but that isn't now in reality. Go for it! ![]()

Do you think Bill Gates said if my company makes me a millionaire I will be happy no he said I want to rule the world if computers have billions be myself and always want to be the best as competition keeps the soul alive!
Settle for 2nd best in a race you are capable of winning is not as impressive as the competitor who came last but ran faster than his last race time as he trained for. The real winner is the person who sets realistic goals and in small steps pes the best they can. Sometimes we work hard for a long period of time and then all of a sudden we get burned out. Maybe a little time spent doing something you enjoy a few times a week will take your mind off all the things you have to accomplish in the future. You have to take each day as it comes.

Choose a junior college to begin with. I have two college degrees. The first was very hard to earn because the classrooms had so many students, there wasn't personalized attention opportunities. My son, however, chose to begin in a junior college for a year and it was a much easier transition to a major university the next year. It is graduating in December

Hi,i have too study problems,i never liked so much school and was a mediocre student. After finished with a bad degree,i went to an institute to learn something, paid a lot of money, but again i couldn't finish and take the degree,i always remember myself wanted 2-3 times more efforts than others to understand the lessons.
In the exams i falied three times in a row to take my degree,so i gave up,frustrated, felt such a bad loser i lost money and time without a positive result. Now,again i'm going to another institute, first year was so boring, stupid lessons i never liked, nothing practical at all,so again i'm not sure if i wll make it to take degree,it's my last chance to take a degree and go out find a job, otherwise everybody will say look a stupid lazy who still taking money from his dad. I don't like studying at all,its like a compulsion for me,so everytime i have to study for exams or whatelse i suffer a lot. ![]() |
