I'm beginning my second semester of grad school this week. I had some ups and downs during the first term, but I still managed to do quite well. I'm unsure how it's going to be this time. I'm feeling without energy this time around, maybe I'm thinking too much ahead. I worry too much, I'm also prone to anxiety. I guess I'm feeling down because I feel that school is the only prospect in my life. I don't really have any friends. I don't really go out. I'm pretty much by myself all day. social anxiety? I would really love to have good friends and a nice girlfriend (she is way out of my reach and that left me heart broken, deeper into depression). Please some comments on how to adjust.

Hi, simplylife! Do you have anything in common with the folks in your program? Maybe you can ask one or more of them to go out for coffee/ a snack, etc. with you. How about folks where you live?
We all need people to talk to, I think. Are you able to find time to get out to go to the movies or do anything fun? That can help depression, too. ![]() |

hey ! I know how you feel. I had a difficult time doing my masters degree. I had read somewhere that rates of depression are quite high among graduate students. If you want to meet a girl, you could try online dating like plentyoffish ? Also, volunteer work (if you have time) can make you meet new people.

I had an awful bout of depression that made me worry about grad school. In addition to coursework, we also have to do an internship so that started to freak me out. I added medications that eventually increased my energy level and now are improving mood, just in the nick of time.
