So, I find it triggering. We've talked about suicide on four different ocassions.I noticed I get really bad anxiety.

Don't know if you have a therapist or just a good friend, but if it were me, I would have someone lined up that I could call after class when I am feeling anxious if this topic comes up. Just having someone to talk to and process my issues is always helpful for me.
And remember, you are not obligated to own someone else's or society's reality. You might have a mantra to take with you to class that counters the idea of suicide ... something like "Today, I have chosen life". You don't to use this one, though ... pick one that feels real for you. This triggering might not necessarily be a bad thing. It might be a gateway to some necessary healing for you. ![]() |

Is the class mandatory for your major or is there an alternative?

I would tell the teacher, privately. I would hope someone who took the time to get enough knowledge together to teach a sociology class would be interested in how that class affects the students. The sociology professor I know is a wonderful person and she would be very interested in working with you so that you were not harmed by her class.

Should I go into depth about the suicidal thoughts? |

I don't think it would be weird. I had suicidal thoughts triggered by a class, although it wasn't a sociology class. And I don't think you need to go into detail with the professor. Does your school have an Office for Disabilities? You might prefer going to them first.
