Its been a year since i joined a new highschool. Still i dont have friends. I mean there are people who just know me. I do talk with some classmates alot online, but they dont talk to me at school. Im always left alone. Nobody hangouts with me, im an introvert, its hard to just start conversations out of nowhere. I have nothing to say to people. But i do want to be treated the same as others. I wanna have fun too. I ditch class parties and extra activities at school cuz i feel so unwanted, so i find it more happy to stay at home than going there and feel anxious. I really dont want to go to school but i have to, since i work for a goal. Im good in studies. So what do i do?

I will give you the contacts of my friends, if I am allowed to post the links here; otherwise, you can find them yourself. You have my nickname and my real name is Michael Marchenko.

![]() How do you get names/make friends online? If you ever ask someone in person for their online name/address, take the conversation a little further by complementing or asking them about something you know about them ("Hey, I heard about that UMG tournament you were in. . ." and discuss it and see if anything comes of that (an invite to come over or meet somewhere, etc.).

Get off line and get involved IN school. Join some fairly active organizations that are service-oriented like student council, honor society, various interest groups/clubs. Find the like-minded people in your school and start joining in. If you aren't involved with them, they are not going to seek you out. You have to be involved consistently AND actively on a regular basis. Until you go that mile, you will continue to be on the outside of things.

Hi, quietguy. I think you need to take up some hobbies and then find others who share the same interests. I am very glad to hear that you are a good student - keep it up and it will pay off in the long run.
As for the new high school, it does not sound like a good fit for you. Are there other schools you could attend? I take it that you have a presentable appearance and haircut as well as good hygiene. It's important to learn to smile and to make eye contact when talking with people. Ask them about themselves - people love to talk about themselves. It will also take some of the focus off of you and your insecurities. Consider getting a part-time job. The extra spending money will help socially, you can invest in your new hobby (or existing ones) and use the funds for a nice haircut or sneakers. Jobs are also a good way of meeting people; co-workers often make excellent friends. Is there a school counselor you could talk to? Take advantage of their availability while you can. You never know what you might learn from them. |
