I'm sorry if there is some where about dbt but i have a few questions in general if anyone has done this method.
Background if needed I have just recently entered therapy and i wanted to get help with more coping methods. My third session of therapy was the other day and we made a plan. Dbt is the plan. I want to get the book we'll be using so i can read it, t said that be a good idea. Any ways i haven't yet but maybe this coming check. But i've been reading sites about dbt. I'm reading that usually t and client meet weekly and also a group.
Well one i'm scheduled to see t biweek as of now (county help and she's over booked). And it only last till march (county doesn't do continue therapy any more as in the past).

I figured i'll still give this a try even though it's not exactly to a t on how it's layed out to work per readings but i just was wondering if success would be better with weekly with dbt?
Maybe me reading more on it i can get an idea. I like hat it uses buddhist ideals in it and mindfull thinking and perspective thinking too and hope i can get something out of it even if t isn't much. As in she doesn't have full time to talk i feel rushed in a way but i'm trying to get what i can out of it. I also forget and most of the time i do mean i generally forget, to mention things or the full story (ie yesterday my paranoia with some thing) i write a summary for myself before i go in to t, i may start pulling them out to remember better.

I know i myself have to put in but my question is- will dbt really be effective if t is too busy and i feel rushed in sessions and they are biweek as well.
Just wondering on any one's thoughts. I've been here and there with going to therapy and i'm going to try to stick to it i guess in a way this question is part of my doubt of wasting time with this t. I do wish i could afford private therapy but That's not in the picture now and i'm trying best with this of what i can.

Idk about group sessions any ways i don't know how i'd do in something like that.

Hi Beauflow...

Normally, yes, you would do the group sessions once a week and see a DBT therapist to confirm/strengthen the thinking skills that you learn in groups. The groups really aren't like talk groups as much as study groups and they can be very expensive. A lot of T's do some DBT although not "formally" trained in DBT. It may be that your T will be doing some work out of the workbooks on specific chapters to help you with self-soothing skills or some other very helpful ideas to help you regulate some emotions so that she can work better with you in other ways as well. I do NOT know this for sure, I'm just speculating as I've heard of many therapist incorporating some of the aspects of DBT in an eclectic way with other processes to best help you...

Make sure and read Marsha Linehan's sight for best information and references as she is the one that developed the theory. I went through some DBT about 3 years ago and my T is sending me back now for some more. He is not trained by the institute but is very familiar with the techniques. The classes are like $170 each week and without insurance there is NO way I could afford them. If I remember, the classes go through the book and all the skills and then go through the whole process again and then take a break. That is like a 9 mo ??? process. I won't be doing the whole thing. No way my insurance even would cover that. A lot of DBT is helping again to reduct the emotional impact of thoughts and stuff by breaking some of the natural/reactive associations between thoughts or even memories and corresponding emotions and bringing them into mindfulness so that you sort of address them more logically rather than emotionally. I'm sure your websites can say it much better than I can.. I hope this helps just a little bit..I'm sure you will get lots of other answers as well..

Wysteria thank you. I think your right about a way for her to handle me better. Just something that happened at work a bit ago, like i get upset easily and can go on about all That's bothering me. I take things too personally i try not to but it just happens and some stuff idk how not am i or anyone to not take personally i'm afraid i will fail at dbt due to that last sentence and That's how i feel. I'll still get the book some where and read it, it'll have to have some things in it that i'll be able to process. I'll look at the lady's site when i'm able to at a computer That's a good idea to do as well.
