not sure where to post.

I have been looking for a job for 4 years, and I cannot find anything even though I applied to so many places constantly, have even had my resume and cover letter updated. I have no money for further education. I am running out of money.

Any suggestions what to try? How do I find a job besides job search sites, word of mouth etc?

thank you.

I look at local government sites, (example from my county: http://www.harfordcountymd.gov/human...vSite.cfm?ID=2) libraries, universities/community colleges, (http://www.harford.edu/hr/jobs.asp?FA=Employee) etc. Often one can get "in" and then move around, get lower cost/free education, other benefits.

Look at your skills too, see if there is a subset that might get you one, even if it is "lesser". My husband (an electrical engineer) and I use to laugh because there seem to be a lot of retired mechanical engineers who are salesmen in the TV department of Best Buy, that sort of thing (they work on commission so can make more than just a "salary"). If you have accounting skills, getting bookkeeping jobs or "cover" jobs during tax season (the accountants are busy just doing taxes so might like a part-time person doing "regular" stuff?) or working as a cashier, etc.

Hey, I know this is kinda a late reply, but I saw that you only got one reply one a really important issue so I felt kinda bad. Let me just say first that I myself have been looking for a job so I know it's hard for sure. Obviously there are the job sites and places like Craigslist & obviously there is small one-time kind of work like walking someone's dog, but finding a steady job is really hard. Here are some suggestions that might help. I really hope they do.

1.) I know this is gonna sound cheesy, but try joining a job club of sorts. Here in Ohio there is an organization called COVA (http://www.cova.org/). It's an organization that helps people with mental illnesses get jobs. These clubs will help you make some connections, find job leads, prepared a better resume with trained professionals, practice interviews, etc. You might be wondering how to find one in your own state. My guess would be ask around at a public library or a church. I actually got my info from my therapist though.

2.) I know you might hate hearing this one, but it's worth a shot at least: Try volunteer work. If you volunteer at a place for a while, you usually have a better chance at getting a job there. Besides, it might keep you busy and keep you in a place where you can talk to people who might be able to help you find a job. You could try at a zoo, hospital, firestation, park or educational center.

3.) If you're social, try to find places with new people and try to make some new friends. Sometimes these people, over time, can help you land a job somewhere because they have connections or heard about the job somewhere. I know you said you didn't have much money, so maybe a community college isn't the place, but I had a very cool teacher who was really good about giving his students job tips.

I know it's not much, but I really do hope you found it a little helpful. I really hope you get a job! This is also going to sound cheesy, but try to stay positive if only for your own sanity! By the way, I like your avatar.
