I have a fear of failure and a fear of success. I have had lots of big ideas in the past that I never complete. I just talked about them and when I didn't accomplish the work, people saw me as a fibber or a loser.

I heard about the National Novel Month Challenge a couple of years ago and kept saying I would do it but as my usual I never finished anything. This November I desperately need to complete something; do something; finish something. It doesn't need to be a great novel or even an interesting novel. it just needs to be coherent. It will be something that I actually create and complete. Once I have reached 50000 words I can submit it and the site will just count the words and nothing else.

This November I will complete my 50000 word novel.

Sounds like a great challenge I have never been able to complete NaNoWriMo but have a lot of respect for those who try it, even if they don't complete it.

I'm sure you will do great. Friends who have done it have said the most important thing is pace yourself - do a little bit every day and keep count. Have a weekly word aim and try to keep it. On busy days you might not write as much as others but if you have your weekly limit it is easier to stick to

Feel free to keep posting here too - whether you are doing well or struggling. A bit of encouragement always helps

I think that's a great idea. It's something I've always wanted to try, but have never had the time or energy. It's good because it's a clearly defined goal with a time limit.

And yes please do post your progress here, that way we can give you encouragement.

I LOVE this! What an awesome idea! In my high school Creative Writing class we had to write novellas---very interesting and challenging project.

I think it's neat you type to 50,000 or more, send it in, and you're done!

Please keep us posted. I write regularly (for myself) and this excites me for you.

Nano is soooooo much fun! If you haven't done it before, you will find their forum is ultra helpful and fun and inspiring! Everyone cheers on each other.

I'm doing Nano for the 5th year. I have 2 successes and 2 fails. Problem is I don't have a plot yet and my brain is full of snot from my badbadbad cold.

If you want, you can request to be my Nano friend over there.

Awesome! I've done NaNoWriMo a few times and was successful twice. Even when I didn't finish it was still fun. I may give it a go this year... guess that means I should have an idea of what to write about.

I had an idea what to write about but now it seems boring.

So I'm clueless.

Novels normally take years to write. Good luck don't be discouraged if you don't get it done.

Participating is fun enough. But gotta warn ya, if you get anywhere close to where you need to be to succeed, it can be quite an addiction to try to top it off...

I remember the year I did young adult, which are often shorter than a normal novel. So I set myself out for fewer pages than you need to "win" (as it's called, everyone that can make the word count is a WINNER, which is quite cool), and a few days before the challenge ended I had my words for my personal goal....

Yea... then I realized I wanted the full graph of progress... so I wrote enough fillers to get that. In two days... Yikes!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I'm aiming for 1667 words today but I plan to follow mazing's advice to have a weekly goal instead.

It feels good to have the daily word count done, but in reality we have on and off days so just once my graph looked next to perfect, other times... soooo not, and once it worked out anyway.

And no, haven't started yet. Ideas went hiding somewhere.

nice, fellow nanowrimo!

this is my first year doing it too. i think it's important to remember two things - one, just write. don't edit, don't worry about being cohesive. i'm at 5000 words and it is nowhere near goal, and it is all over the place. two, even attempting this is something to be proud of, in my opinion.

good luck! <3

I was sick for several weeks that ruined the whole thing. Not the first time but the first time it was so severe I gave up before starting.

Makes me quite sad, but what can I do?

I'm not making any progress either. There is a saying that everyone has at least one book in them. I don't even have a chapter. I'm just stuck. I put my outline down to count the words and now i can't fill anything in. Feeling really stupid and hopeless.

I came up with an idea on day 14. But I got too lazy to try. Not the real passion.

Some stuff is actually hard to write. Some stories almost write themselves. But if you're not in the zone to write, everything is hard. But it doesn't have to be like that. We have ups and downs. Too bad my downs are in November.... I SO hate November as a month....
