When it comes to things I have scheduled, I don't have too much of a problem. I think that I'm too fixed in patterns to miss school or work, but when it comes to anything else I find it too difficult to make myself do anything.

I think that I need or want to do something, but I can just sit here for hours and not do anything. I just mess around on the internet and find new ways to not think.

For some things, I would just like some motivation to live my own life instead of living vicariously off of the internet. For others, I really need to get my life together and figure out my post-college plans.

I have figured out that getting out of the house in the morning helps me later in the day, but I can't just eat breakfast at a restaurant every day, can I?

Does anyone have any tips or advice? What do you do to get moving?

Morning routine is very important for me. I must have coffee and some sort of breakfast but I make it. I actually have a couple of cool low tech coffee makers so no timer here. It isn't really about the caffeine. It's that auto pilot that gets me up and the coffee is just the prize. Twyla Tharp talks about it... It's a ritual to get you going. Making the coffee is such a ritual that I don't have to think about it and by the time it's ready it's too late to roll over and go back to sleep. Twyla's example is she gets up, hails a taxi for the gym. She does that so quickly there isn't time to think about it and by the time she is in the cab it is too late to change your mind. Well you could but it would take a lot of effort

What gets me moving is knowing that I will regret it if I don't. Morning is the hardest part of the day for me. It takes me so long to get ready for work.

If eating breakfast out every morning gets your day started right, it seems like a good use of money to me

Know what you mean about launching yourself out into the world...and staying out of too much vegging...my unfortunate sink hole is the tv...so i try to not turn it on...though lately it ends up on just for noise...but i figure this will all get better as i engage in job-search mode...guess maybe just having something you want to do out there can act as a magnet which can help motivate outward movement--and they're right: lots of coffee also...lots and lots of coffee...
