When I was young I heard this saying, and I have heard it many times since:

"Laughter is the best medicine"

To this end, I heard one time that the founder of CANDID CAMERA started a practice of making tapes of his shows available to folks who were dying. They watched and laughed. I am not sure of what exactly the outcome of this was, but I do remember that it was positive. In other words, it somehow benefited the patients.

For those of you too young to remember what CANDID CAMERA was, it was a TV Show in which situations were set up, so that someone who later came into them did not know that it was a set up. The aim was to get them to have some kind of reaction to the situation that would make the audience laugh. It worked, and it was funny, and we always hooted and howled with laughter whenever we watched it. Whatever happened on the show was usually harmless, funny, and even the people who had been duped into making us laugh, would later laugh at themselves when watching the tapes of themselves. They, of course, had to give permission to the creator of the show, to put their images onto the show. 100s of them agreed to be on the show. To me, it was a great show and I miss it!!!
