If you look up the word 'procrastination' in any dictionary, you will find my name next to it.
![]() That's just how much I procrastinate. If there's an exam I start studying for it properly just the day before. And then I stress and stress and reach breaking point. Not the best feeling. * I ask someone to check in on me, (usually my mum). That itself is a sort of motivation. * I try to minimize distractions like my phone or computer and limit calls. * I do the most unpleasant tasks quickly so I can finish it off and get it out of the way, and then move on to lighter things that I enjoy doing. * I've got a weird sort of quirk where I really get motivated to finish something before the microwave oven gives off the alarm. And its been proven that doing tasks in quick bursts, like say 15 minutes at a stretch and then a break. My cuckoo clock rings at every 15 minutes, so that definitely helps. * Also, I motivate myself with chocolate or other sort of rewards. * I've tried keeping timetables and schedules, but it hasn't worked out much for me. I do, however, make to-do lists and tick off the things I've done. Just seeing those ticked off tasks gives me as sense of relief, like I've done something right. Hope this helps! |

I've learned that my mood is very fragile, very temporary like the breeze on my face. I can ignore it because it has no value. example-I have to mow the yard today. How will I go about it to make the least work out of it?-do the front first and even the back tomorrow? Running in circles with reasoning. I find once I start something all that planning goes away and I do the whole thing. So I've learned to ignore this planning thinking. If I just get up and walk around the room my mood will begin to change. You don't have to undertake any tedious task. Then I find if I'm busy doing something I feel better-and it doesn't even have to be anything worthwhile. I've been through 40 years of serious depression but now at most there's just a lingering lethargy or habit of approaching goals. I feel great most of the time and have a lot of energy.

This is the perfect thread for me. I not only procrastinate, but I AM procrastination. I AM lethargy. right down to my DNA. I am so lethargic that I haven't worked in 5 years and have been living on unemployment, my savings, my 401K, income tax refunds, selling my personal stuff (though I have only been able to do that once due to the lethargy). I have lost my health insurance, house insurance, my a/c system does not work, the house needs a new roof, an the car needs new tires. You name it, I've lost it. and I still can't motivate myself to try to work. On top of my C-PTSD, I was bullied at my job, badly bullied, for 9 years by about 25 people, including my supervisors. It's been 5 year and I am still having night terrors about those people! I've had lots of therapy, but still the terror overwhelms me. I have depression going on, too, of course. I wake up in the morning and look around at my bedroom and don't see anything worth getting out of bed for. Thanks for listening.

Shakespeare said- In delay there is no plenty. And it's interesting how many faces procrastination has. For example you may have a list of bigger things or goals. You find yourself working on a lesser interest because the big goal at the moment seems too hard and far away-and as you work on this lesser thing you feel you are being productive but in reality you are avoiding your main interest/procrastinating. You gotta prioritize. Realize the big goal even though it seems far away is what you really want the most.
A person can hide from their true goal by everyday doing little things until one day you come to the end of a life of mediocrity. |

I make a list of tasks that need to be done. The ones I would likely procrastinate on (usually tasks I don't like) I do first and get it over with. If there are a few I might do one a day first thing in the morning.
