My morning routine is and always has been awful. I get up for work about 15 minutes before I have to leave and literally hurry to get ready and run out the door, never time for breakfast or coffee so I end up grabbing unhealthy food on the way.
My housemate noticed and said to me "God I don't know how you do that, I get up early and make coffee and take my time getting ready and lounge around, I couldn't imagine rushing the way you do every day." And I just loved the idea of being able to have a nice relaxed morning every day! I've tried before to get up earlier so I can have breakfast and start my day off well, but I really struggle so much! Anyone have any tips? |

Yes. Ignore your housemate, seriously. She sounds judgemental...or like a parent. Make changes you want to make. For you.

Could it have anything to do with adrenaline? If you only have 15 minutes to make everything happen, would it not take a tremendous push from somewhere? Could you be addicted to whatever is the stimulus?

I don't have much advice but I know ppl who do it like your roommate and thier mornings are much happier.
it's all about just trying to start the habit and eventually it will become your new routine. wish I could help more but I think it would be a positive change!

I find it helpful to set out everything the night before, that way when I get up I don't have to think too much and it's quicker, it beomes 'automatic'.
So if you want coffee you can set up all your coffee making equipment on the bench, or cereal bowl etc. |

Breakfasts I make are: Hard boil a ton of eggs at the beginning of the week, shove two in my pocket as I go out the door, along with a piece of fruit or a yogurt cup. Pre-broil a batch of bacon if you eat bacon, to add to the eggs. Bacon is yummy cold or warm! I make a breakfast cereal out of quinoa, millet, and rolled oats with nuts and berries mixed in. This recipe keeps for a week, so I scoop some in a jar the night before work and grab it as I go out the door. Granola bars, crackers, trail mix stashes in my drawers... uh, work drawers, not underwears. ![]() If you have a fridge at work, stash leftovers and easy to prep foods in it to eat on your breaks, if you get morning breaks. Coffee: Ok, maybe not so healthy but I buy the Starbucks frappe in a bottle, then water it down to half the coffee and water so it isn't so sweet, and stretches the dollar. I drink 12 ounces at a time, only six ounces of it the coffee, so one bottle lasts me several days. You can also make coffee the night before and keep it in the fridge. Zap it in the microwave in the morning. I put half and half in my coffee so it is more of a meal, no sugar. I also shower at night instead of in the morning. I hope you can use some of these tips! I mean, not sure how good they are, but it is how I cope with not being a morning person. |
