My sleep study is coming up. I will take the chin strap there, and the tech who will be setting up everything for the study will help me adjust it so that I can use it. I love my mask, but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and realize that I have taken the mask off in my sleep; the chin strap is supposed to help with that.

Just wondering, how did your sleep study go, @Tart Cherry Jam?

I came back to this thread because I'm rebuilding a computer, and I wanted to verify that I had the latest Sleepy Head installation program.

All my old reports are gone. So I've re-downloaded all the old sleep data from the CPAP machine and generated a new one. Here's the updated report...

My MSLT (the daytime study) showed Idiopathic Hypersomnia. This is because my average sleep lat ncy was short enough (right on the threshold) to qualify me for that diagnosis, and I didn't enter REM during those naps, which disqualified me for Narcolepsy II. However, the nighttime PSG that preceded the MSLT disqualified the MSLT, as I didn't sleep the requisit minimum of 6 hours. I slept less than 5 hours. I was very uncomfortable and even in pain from the adhesive that attached the electrodes to my neck. The adhesives literally peeled skin off my neck and only now, 2 months later, the marks on my neck have finally disappeared. My sleep medicine NP gave me the diagnosis of Idiopathic Hypersomnia without making me go through another sleep study, but it is not clear now whether the insurance would agree to cover Xyrem or Xywav for me to try to treat Idiopathic Hypersomnia. This will become clear in the next few weeks.

On the plus side, I finally learned how to use a chin strap with the nasal cushion, my preferred mask type, and now my machine doesn't show leaks and I no longer have those long-lasting sleep apnea headaches that used to plague me for several hours upon getting up

Thank you for asking, Square Peg!

Hey - been thinking of you guys too. I am glad you are learning more about things @Tart Cherry Jam - also happy to hear that you've adjusted your mask to avoid those headaches, I used to get them too in the beginning.

Good to see you again too @SquarePegGuy - I am glad we've revisited this thread. Good sleep report.

This prompted me to look at my sleep report too. I finally got into myAir account and figured it out. I have been averaging 7 1/2 hours, but last night I had almost 10, which was amazing. I feel really refreshed today.

Here is my report:

going to bed for the night consistently

So, as my health insurance denied coverage for Xyrem/Xywav, in part because my PSG disqualified me from the diagnosis for which these medications can be approved, I will have another sleep study in three weeks, with the hope that I will sleep for at least 6 hours during the PSG.

I have tightened my mask (the nasal cushion) and am getting better sleep! This is promising!

Those dern masks do tend to stretch out of shape slowly over time. It's most noticeable after I give myself a buzzcut.

My health insurance has denied coverage for a second test. They want me first to significantly reduce the leak of the mask. I will go to the clinic for a data download in 2 weeks to check if now, with a tightened mask and a chin strap, the leaks are being kept at bay. If not, they want me to tape my mouth.

My machine is flaky, don't know how long more it will last, but I have been consistent nights sleep of at least 9 hours. The mask does expand over time, I change mine out every other month or so, but I alternate between two at a time.

I get the nasal cushions shipped to me every three months and a complete mask with tubing annually. But I don't replace anything until it gets thoroughly unusable. I have a hoarder's mentality, based on the fear that if I can't get anymore, I'll have a nice stash to fall back on.

I'm starting to get leaks now when I go to bed and start the therapy. I've been covering my face with a heavy black T-shirt. This presses the mask in place gently. Plus, it blocks any light from getting into the head. We're getting cool nighttime temps, so it's comfortable.
