I journal sporadically. But when I need to think something over or I'm struggling with thoughts and feelings it's the key to working things out.
I don't try to write regularly or consistently, and it doesn't have to be neat or perfect. It my place to think out loud.

I used to write in a book journal since I was a teen. Lately, I write online. It really adds another dimension to get anonymous feedback, but it also inhibits some of my thoughts to flow.

I had to buy a binder and some paper because I was going through too many journals. I had stopped journalling due to illness, but now I'll be back at it!!!! I find I can vent all my frustrations and get out any negative emotions, or positive...and I feel better. Someone suggested journalling before bed because all your thoughts will be gone and you may sleep better...just a though

I have used journalling throughout the last 30 years. At times I wrote many times a day, other times months would pass; (Please ignor speling- typing is painful and my anxiety high). I college I wrote because I was getting a taste of how fast life was going by and thought writing stuff down would help form memories ( nevermind that I didn't know I was DID and that was what accounted for my gaps of memories); After college when i finally sought Tx for my Bulimia I had to do a food journal- if my journal and my weight didn't match- my t would catch on quick! For a while my journal help get the thoughts out and I could start my day calmer and relaxed after writing a prayer to God. I would write at night as well to get all the "undone" out of my brain to sleep. After my car accident holding a pen and the book was painful- I could only journal bits and pieces. I tried a computer journal ( typing is a bit easier) but forgot my password and was panic stricken that a hacker could see my journal and I couldn't ( ignore that I wasn't hooked up to internet!).
Overall I recomend journalling to others; I have also found that "visual journals" are helpful as well- old magazines provide words or pictures that you paste into a small notebook- very free will- think collage or doodling. I can rip the pages if I can't hold scissors or to ease my anger. I think you get it- if you want more info PM me. ( I first used visual journals in the hospital- it was that or DBT with a doctor that triggered my PTSD up the wazoo)
