Well, in three days - on February 20th.

I'm going to be celebrating three years free from self-injury.

Three years from cutting, scratching, or basically doing myself permanent harm. I still do some potentially harmful things, but nothing that I'd consider self-injurious to myself...

It's been hard.

Really hard.

Some days I debate whether or not to give up fighting it.

But other days it's so much easier to deal with.

The pinned topic in this forum is a LIFESAVER. Things to do instead of self-injury... really useful. I write a lot usually. Or play with my pets. Or sleep. Those are my typical coping tools. But others work too!

Therapy has helped me to hate myself less. If I don't hate myself, then it's easier to not hurt myself. If I try to deal with my emotions, it's not as likely I'll resort to bottling them and cutting to deal with the ones that escape the "bottle" in my head.

But it ain't easy!

But it's SO WORTH IT.

And you're worth it. My therapist told me that.

So I say it to you all:

YOU ARE WORTH IT.

Keep fighting the urges, you deserve to be happy.

Thanks ((((((((((everyone))))))))))))) for your support over the years.

I'm not sure what exact day was my last day, but it's been over two years for me. I know I'll make it another year and more. Congratulations to you!!!!! I hope you can inspire all the others that are still battling it. We're proof it's battle that can be won.

Congratulations, That's really great! I know how hard it can be, I should keep a record myself, it's been a bit longer than you, but it never gets any easier. I sometimes draw on myself with a sharpie to satisfy the now rare of an urge,. You go girl!

Thank you everyone for sharing in on my "anniversary"!!

I haven't really done anything to celebrate IRL but I'm planning on doing something when I figure out what. I've told some of my IRL friends though (so much easier to tell them now that I'm no longer doing it. I didnt tell them before that).

That's so exciting. I wish I could do that. I haven't cut in almost two weeks, and let me be the first to tell you that I so badly want to. To fight the urge, my T and I have come up with motivations. But my major motivation for not cutting is not eating.
Thanks for this!

You can do it! The first bit is definitely the hardest, it takes a while to change a regular habit and way of coping.

Thank you lovelies!! Couldn't have done it without you all being willing to listen to me rant and rave so much sometimes!!

I didn't do anything to celebrate really, but have gotten some kudos and congratulations from IRL friends who I told which is nice. Much easier to tell people after you've stopped a behaviour than when you're in the midst of it!!

I applaud you, Christina.

And yes,
it is much easier to talk about things
that are 'in the past', instead of present problems.

Thanks for this!
