I was wondering what anyone had for ways of handling stressful situations. The bottom line is that I have these urges sometimes to hurt myself, but the thing is I really don't want to end up as involuntary in a sych ward or hospital. Thanks for the input.

Someone mentioned snapping a rubber band on their wrist, or using a marker...

My T gave me a marble, and some calming messages to go with it. Now I don't even have to think them, but just roll the marble in my hand.

Yes, the rubberband and marker trick is really good. Smacking a rubberband against your wrist a couple times gives you the burning sensation cutting does, without leaving you bloody and cut open. The marker trick is more for the actual ACTION of just SIing... When you get the urge to cut a lot of times it's the urge to just slide a blade across your wrist, not to feel pain. So when you get those kind of urges, you can rub a washoff marker across your arm. Most like using the color red.

Have a stress ball that is soft and squeze or grab ice and hold in you palm of one hand and hold tightly that way your won't be hurting yourself permintly but get that cold sensation tingerling up your arms. Did the elastic band unfortally I pulled it too far that it snapped and ouch. Also sometime I use red crappy eye liner with out hurt I draw loads of lines down my arm. You still get a tiny feeling when drawing likes on your arms. If you have something sharp on you that you use, my advice is to get rid of it now. If won't help you only make things worse. I'm not going to give in! (again)

When you get stressed out try counting backwards from 10 while deeply inhaling and exhailing. Try to imagine breathing in goodness and exhailing out all of the stressful things that are on your mind.
