Hi everyone,

I have a question for you. I was at an appointment today with my psychiatrist and was talking about how lately i have really been feeling like cutting. She said that feeling like cutting is about more than that, She said that cutting has become an addiction for me. She also wants to know what I am feeling before I want to cut, I told her that before I want to cut I usually dissociate. She wants to know what it is that I am feeling before I dissociate. I really don't know what it is that I feel before I dissociate. Does anybody have this happen to them? If so are you aware of the feeling that you are having? What is it? How can I become more aware of it? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Some people want to SI when they dissociate because it grounds them. Yes, understanding what is causing you to dissociate would be really good. You can become more aware gradually so that you can understand what is going on with you. First just catch yourself dissociating and then gradually you will become more aware of what is causing you to dissociate.

The disassociate thing makes perfect sense. For me, it is a way to ground myself. Sometimes before I actually disassociate and other times in the midst of it. I have spent a lot of time working backwards to figure out what triggers me sometimes with success, other times not so much.
