You're making very good sense. Do you know that it isn't bad to need someone to help you? It's okay to need attention too. Everybody needs attention and there is nothing wrong with that. SI can be a way to say, "look, I need some help over here, and nothing else that I've tried has gotten anybody to notice!" And when you find that you do feel better, for a little while anyway, then the next time you feel unheard and unnoticed you try the same thing again because it seemed to work before. All that this really says about you is that you need to learn some effective ways of getting help when you need it. You're in good company there. And mental illness isn't something that you can just snap out of, but of course you already knew that. That's why you are asking for help by going to therapy and by coming here.
