My T asked me to day what I am thinking when I want to cut. But I really couldn't tell her. So my T wants me to focus on that when the feelings come up and when they aren't the most intense and I can't think. So that is my homework. I will try to figure it out and post my thinking here.

Insight #1. When I am feeling worthless and want to make that feeling go away or want to have something else to focus on. The physical pain would be easier to deal with than the emotional pain. Also it is a physical urge like an itch that needs to be released.

I used to do it when I hated myself so much, I couldn't stand it anymore. I had to try and destroy myself.

I'm on the same page as Laura. Though, I don't cut, I get mad, feel defeated and it's like I just loath/hate the situation/myself.

I have urges to cut when I dissociate. Or that is the only time I've actually gone through with it.
I cut when I want to get rid of bad feelings. When I feel dirty or shameful. |

Sometimes I feel guilty about things (no I'm not going to share so you don't need to ask).
Sometimes I feel like the physical pain would be easier to tolerate than the emotional pain. At least then I have something to show for the pain. Sometimes I want to cut all the yucky stuff out of me. Sometimes I want to cut myself to ribbons. Sometimes I want relief from the pressure. The pressure of feeling disgusting. |

I cut when I don't want to do something worse.
I cut because I feel like I deserve to be hurt. And if I can do it first then I know when it is coming instead of waiting. And that I deserve it. |
