I dont know If I am even posting the right thing on the right forum here. I have avoided posting on this forum for a long time I think because I thought if the longer I could go without acknowledging my issues that maybe they wouldn't be such a big deal. Long story short i'm bipolar and have been cutting for about 10 years now. It comes and goes depending on what i'm dealing with in my life. There are very few times where I go a significant amount of time without cutting. The past few months has been one of those rare moments in time where I have been SI free. But now i'm not so sure.
About a week ago I burnt the back of my hand on accident grabbing a dish out of the oven. At first it wasn't a big deal and it was healing nicely. Then I found out that I had the desire to peel off the skin that was blistering over the burn. I have not let it heal at all. I think it is getting infected as it is now swollen and hot to the touch. Is this some kind of form of SI coming out in a different way? I get the same feelings that I get when I cut but Im not sure. I dont know. Im really confused right now. Any thoughts? |

Hi ariatboot,
I am no expert but I would say yes it is SI. Not allowing the wound to heal you are prolonging the healing process and leaving the possiblity of scarring. I recently started picking at cuts continually because I noticed that I do scar more. Sorry if I have gone ![]() ![]() |

Yes, this is considered SI. Re-opening wounds, especially consistently, is SI.
Please be careful. If you feel the need to SI, hold an ice cube. It really helps. Good luck, and keep us posted on how you're doing! ![]() ![]() ![]()

hi ariatboot...i would have to agree that this is SI. i hope that you get your hand looked at by a doctor because it sounds like it is infected. and infections can become dangerous very quickly.
