I started cutting for the first time a few weeks ago, just little scratches that barely bled, on my fingers, but it's gotten worse and now I cut my wrists, and so I have started just wearing long sleeves all the time... It doesn't work well for me. I get hot easily and I either have to wear a long sleeve shirt or wear a hoodie all the time but I want so bad to be able to wear normal clothes! And im really afraid of people finding out. And when it starts to get warm again I don't know what to do! Can somebody please give me any ideas you have to cover up the cuts, if there's anything else? There aren't that many of them, and they are all close together, they take up maybe an inch and a half on my wrist... Can anyone tell me if you do anything else to cover up the cuts or scars?

I hate to give you advice but I'm a new cutter and I'm have a weird internal thermostat
Even though I'm anorexic I'm used to cold so I wear a lot of short sleeves too. I've just undiscoverable places. I'm NOT proud of it and I just really went crazy tonight. Everywhere. I kinda didn't care! I decided to check myself in somewhere to deal with that as well as other issues. Ive been dealing with a lot recently , loss of dad, rape police denial and threat of arrest for false charges bc they didn't believe me so it was like being raped again. Mixed cycle mood swings so I'm trying to hang in there. You ever see that poster w the kitty hanging on by it's claws? That's me right now. I'm doing what I have to do to stop this insidious cycle see if u can find someone to help u. Peace

I'm very sorry you both felt so bad to start cutting. I have cut myself for about 7-8 years now and I can say you do get use to wearing long sleeve tops. For me I had no option as I cut high so had to wear long sleeves however you have cut you're wrists and you can cover them with bracelets, bangles watch, sweat bands or even those finger-less gloves that just has a hole for thumb and one other for 4 fingers.

You said it is close together so a watch may be able to hide it all, if not then a couple of bracelets and bangles should do the job.

I told my mum just after christmas and it went quite well, she didn't shout or anything which I wasn't expecting. You should tell you're parents but write a letter and give it to them, that way you don't have to be there when they see it.

Thank you. I don't know if I'll ever get up the courage to tell my mom. I don't want her to know, actually.
But it think I might get some of those fingerless gloves. And the other day I discovered just how helpful bracelets and wristbands are!! And hair ties and stuff. I need to get some of those thick rubber wristbands, I like them and they'd cover a lot...
Thanks for the help.

Well telling you're mum isn't easy and I only told my mum as I kept having nightmares of her finding out in the worse possible way so I told her myself.

The term I was looking for when I was describing the finger less glove things was arm warmers. You can even make you're own if you have material you like.

Those thick rubber wristbands you are talking about here in london (England) can be found everywhere like the £store and 99p store so maybe looking in the 99c or $ store (if there is a such thing).

I'm happy to be able to help

are you a girl? Get couple of long sleeved tunics (or any shirt that opens up.... so you can wear it as layered clothing.

fingerless cloves are great too.

but i think first of all, you should try to fight this habit, for it can get pretty bad and destructive and at one point it no longer provides you the weird comfort as it did in the beginning.

Long wrap bracelets are great also! Especially the extra long ones that are adjustable because you can put them exactly where you want them and they stay there much better than the bangles, which for me slide all up and down my arm whenever I move it around. Also, especially when warmer weather hits & you get tired of bracelets (they got so annoying for me) and you start getting weird looks for wearing 759 pony tail holders on your wrist (lol okay not really that many), not to mention if you're around girls, there's always someone asking for one "since you have so many" lol-- anyway: save up & invest in some good tattoo concealer! And practice applying it! It's not great for scabs of course, but it's the best thing I've found for scars. Concealer for scars plus wrap bracelets for the newer stuff has proven a good combo for me. Hope that helps!

My advice is quit now while it hasn't gotten too bad. It's only going to get worse and you may think you have it contained on your wrist right now, but it won't be long before you are running out of skin. Think of how long it took you from moving from your fingers to your wrists.

I am trying now, I know if I don't I'm going to start going crazy with it, it's really easy for me to go overboard with things like this. So I'm trying to stop

Mylife- It can get out of control. Covering a wrist is easy enough, you don't want to have to cover more of you. You really don't want to be looking for more places. See how you feel now wanting to cover up your wrists? It will fade by summer, but if there are more places it won't be faded by then and you will want to cover. That has always been a motivation which helped me- not wanted to keep covering scars. I had a therapist say an idiot thing to me once about my scars. A therapist. People can say awful things. You don't want or deserve that.

It helps to try to put some thought between wanting to and doing it. Many hugs to you.
