And realized that it hurt and was almost as good as cutting..

plus it doesnt leave bruises or anything either, so that was a plus to my mind.

Is this SI behaviour? I feel like its ok to do since it doesnt leave marks or scars but its still hurting myself right?

I guess it would be classed as SI if you did it on purpose but (and I don't know if this is appropriate or not) it's good that you have found a release that doesn't leave scars or could be unsafe to your health I accidentaly spilled hot wax on my arm today. I don't really know what else to say, but if you MUST SI then better to go with the hot wax than anything else. I've been holding icecubes recently and they've been quite effective. Good luck! well see that was kind of how i thought about it.

I havent done it on "purpose" yet per se, but the thought is there, and would it be that far from holding ice cubes, which sting once they get so cold?

Do i make sense?

lol

yeah, I know what you mean. Ice cubes is a 'recognised' distraction for stopping SIing, but I don't know if they would class hot wax as the same?! I have NO idea I accidentaly spilled hot wax on my arm today I accidentaly spilled hot wax on my arm today

Dripping hot wax, IMO, is not self harming. Actually it is a fetish for some, usually between two people, and it does not inflict any type of damage that I know of.

Cutting, however is self harming and I know all too well that it's not a good thing. I don't think hot wax and cutting are in the same category. Hope this helps!

Oh yeah, and the icecube thing? I once heard a mental health professional say that when you feel a need to self injure, to plunge your hands into ice cold water instead. So the icecube thing sounds like a good thing!

Just be careful not to get the wax so hot that you get blisters.

FYI, a friend of mine who uses bedroom candles says that she learned the hard way that dark colored ones hold the heat waaaaay too long, so stick with white and light colors.

good ideas!
yes I definetly noticed it wasnt hot enough to burn blisters or anything. Just enough to feel and then it fades.

(((rainbowz)))) if you use it as a self harming, coping mechanism, then it would be that.

If you do get the wax so hot that it does burn, that wouldn't be good. IMO it's a risky issue. You know, even when you get waxed at a salon, by professionals and regulated heating elements and sterile wax...you still have to sign a waiver.

If you can use it, or ice to cope rather than cutting, imo that would be a good first step. However, wax and ice can both damage your skin and the nerves under it

The wax sounds good. I prefer my razors, but I've had T's suggest the ice. Yeah, I used to put hot wax on myself cause I liked the way the wax dried...but anyways, I don't see anything harmful about it.

I use to drip hot wax on my skin when i had the urages of wanting to cut or wanting to have that "feeling good" feeling.

It hurts for a breif sec but it gave me that goodness feeling.

If I had the chance before using a razor blade... I would of perfered the hot wax... simply because with the hot wax... it didnt give me theses nasty scars that i have on my lower legs that i have to deal with for the rest of my life.
