So it's obvious by the fact that I'm even posting here that I have to hide some past and current SI scars/cuts.

Usually it's pretty easy.
Usually it's not a problem.

Until now. Earlier today I got a text from my friend/karate instructor that said "I think we need to take a black belt outing to Hurricane Harbor water park in Arlington...what do you think?"

F***.

Let me say that again...WATER PARK. I'm so screwed. It's a black belt thing, its hard to explain but I can't just not go unless I have a reason...especially since I would love to go (if I didn't have this issue, of course) and she (my instructor) probably knows that.

I haven't replied to her text, I couldn't. I'll be seeing her tomorrow, she's probably going to bring it up again...I don't know what to say. I don't know how I can hide it...I don't know what I could use as an excuse to not go...

Any ideas?

Wish I could help, but I am running into basically the same issue. Taking my girl scout troop to a waterpark in june... don't know what to do. Panicking. If it was outside, I could wear a t-shirt to "not get sunburn"... it's inside thouigh

I'm guessing that your scars are not in a place that is easy to hide otherwise you wouldn't be asking!
If you don't have any obviously recent scars IF she says anything you could just go with the 'that was a difficult period of my life but I'm ok now'. You can always say that you would rather not talk about it and hope that she respects that.
Going to the water park - brave.
Good luck, let us know how it goes?

Buy a rash shirt. It's long sleeve and worn by surfers; in other words, designed to be worn at the beach out in the sun. It's very light weight and protects you from the sun. Very stylish and worn by a lot of young people right over their bathing suits.

I'm with J. If you can cover the marks with clothing, chances are you can find sometype of swimwear that does. It just takes some huntin sometimes and they're a little harder to find for adults

Once my mother insisted I get in the motel pool with her. "What happened to your thighs?????" I felt like s***. There was no real way around it, plus I temporarily forgot and just pulled off the shorts I had over my suit. I have swim shorts that cover most of thighs. I'm sorry. Wish I could help more.

Well, good news: the water park trip thing isn't going to be until August. Bad news is we're actually going (I was hoping my instructor would decide not to...lol)

I've decided I have to tell her the truth.

I was considering it anyway...things have gotten really bad lately and I think I need to tell someone IRL...she's probably the best person to talk to.
Now I just have to figure out how. Talking to her about some things was coming up anyway; I have to write a paper about my life for my 1st degree black belt test this summer and there are some things I don't think I can just leave out of that. I wasn't going to tell her about the SI though...I guess I have to now.

So yeah...now I just have to figure out how to explain this...and everything that led to it...
Thanks for this!

Hang in there. Chances are it will go over better than you think. Good luck.
