I'm in a really good place in my life right now, but somehow, something is making me think about SI again. I want to be happy, and I want to SI. I want both. Is that possible?

I know the answer is most likely no, and that I'm just kidding myself into thinking that I can have both, but I really need to hear it.

Do you know what it is that is making you want to SI? Some kind of trigger, even though you are happy? Or maybe its because it's like an addiction, even though you are happy it is still something that is craved at times. I don't have an answer for you, and I don't even know if my post means anything, but I wanted to reply...!

I think it might be because I just started my junior year and I am aware of the fact that there is a lot stress coming up. Also, maybe because I want to avoid thinking about all the stress coming up... otherwise, I cannot think of any other reason. I must just be plain messed up but thanks for replying.

You're welcome! And yes Junior year is stressful...oh man....! At least you identified it! (hopefully!) I thought your interpretation of it was good. Meh, about being messed up...even "normal" people are messed up, LOL!!! Good luck to you. Feel free to chat anytime

This sounds very probable. Anticipatory stress can cause you to want to SI.

I still think about it. A lot. It sucks. I want to go a year without SI, but I can hardly think about what I will feel when exams come around in December.

One thing that I had to learn to do was to only live in the moment. Worrying about tomorrow and beyond increases anxiety. I think that we avoid living in the moment because it can be painful. It can be painful because living in the moment means that we have to be aware of our feelings, our circumstances, etc. I had to work through these issues of living in the moment. It certainly is a better place to be. The moment is where life happens.

Definitely; it is hard for me to remember that too! Day by day. I tend to be an anxious worrier, so I really have to almost say aloud to myself "just today, just today" to help me not worry about the future! I know that we are to plan of course, but I go overboard.

Not saying you are, of course, but I know how you feel about exams. Maybe just study one subject an extra 5 minutes a day if you are way stressed about it and can't stop thinking about it. Then it might feel like you are doing something towards that dreaded week in December...? Just a thought. I am not great with ideas!

I feel like I definitely plan overboard. Junior year is one of those "so what do you want to do with your future" years. I feel like I've planned my entire life out for myself already, and I tried living in the "now" today, but it just doesn't seem possible for me... I suppose I could keep trying to live in the "now". Maybe ignorance really is bliss.

Maybe I've been in denial about being in "a good place in my life". Because right now I just feel like a sad sad wreck.

I remember junior year; it was totally what you are describing. Like where you are going and preparing for college, and everything, and all that you thought you knew changes!

I don't think that you were in denial about your life being in a good place; maybe it is just so overwhelming right now that it feels like it? IDK. Maybe not. I feel sad too, and I try to think about that because I am also at a changing point in my life...trying to buy a house....scary and not ready?!

Thanks, today was better, everything seemed to work out for me. Of course, there's no guarantee it'll be the same for tomorrow... or the day after...

It seems like you are realizing why you didn't want to live in the here and now? Good work!
