Hi, I was wondering jf there are older SI's here, or just teens? I use to SI as a teen, cut, hit, break bones. That was in the late 70's,early 80's. before it came into the light in the 90's.I'm also male. I got away from family probs, so was able to stop SI'ing. My wife of almost 30yrs, dosn't know about the SI, just the depression. Told her I fell through a window to explain the scars. Over the past 2yrs my heath has faild.Heart attacks, kidney probs.,diabeties,BP,stroke, staff infections. I can't work anymore, will lose T-19 on the 1st,wife made too much $ last month. No medicare till april. EVERTHING seems out of control.Old desires are back! Thoughts of cutting everyday! I CAN'T believe these feelings are back after over 30+yrs. Thanks and be safe, pitrat

It sounds like you were able to stop SI because you changed your distressing environment. Now you have a major stressor again. Have you talked to anyone about medical care? There are clinics that can help.

So yes, it isn't only younger people, nor is it only females as you know. I'm guessing that fewer males report it, or they do it in such a way that it presents as an accident. The longest time i went without cutting or other form of SI was ten years. It came back out of the blue at a time when there was incredible stress and it seemed like there was no way out. Keep fighting. Once you start again, its harder to stop. I don't think I'm telling you anything you don't already know. Thank you, by the way, for speaking up. I often wondered if anyone else on the panel was my age, or older. I guess its like any other addiction. In times of great stress, the old urges come back and unless we refrain from them, we will be right back where we were years ago. Sam2 |

41 female and yeah I'm fighting it but not very successfully. The past week has been horrible for me. Until about 3 weeks ago I had been clean since Easter.
It's hard, it's not just teens. |

Im a teen.... and Im so sorry. I wish I could stop... but it just gets worse. My scars are spreading with my pain... and it keeps getting worse... I keep sinkking deeper into a pit of despair, and when that happens my blade sinks deeper too. (which for the record is metaphoric... I actually dont cut any deeper because I dont want hospital visits or stiches)

Adults seem to use other methods, like destroying our credit, property, etc.
I seem to dig the hell out of my head when stressed and I'm 38. I pick until my scalp bleeds. Bad habit and trying not to do it now. |
