Cutting no longer provides relief! And I don't want to cut deeper! I'm at a loss for coping. I can't motivate myself to go for a walk or exercise alone! I don't know what to do! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you tried any of the coping strategies from your doctors? Distraction, being outdoors, being social, craft, self nurture were all things I used to cope to stop cutting.

The only thing I've been doing is snapping a rubber band on my wrist when ever I get the urge to cut. It helps a little bit, but not much. I'm pretty anti-social lately and trying to be social takes enormous amounts of strength, that I just simply do not have any longer.

You could try some anxiety medication. Exercise, listen to music, write your feelings down in a journal, scream, punch something, squeeze an ice cube (people say this works, but it doesn't really do anything for me...) Exercise really does seem to help temporarily. Sure it takes energy but you have to push yourself.

Yeah, I've thought about asking my pdoc about some anti-anxiety meds. I need something to calm me down!

Try the things suggested then look into some medication.

I've learned finding a small thing of soft wood that I can scratch at with my nails as helped... sounds truly odd but it did keep my urges down for 3 weeks.

I found the butterfly project really helpful (although I did just kill one of my butterflies)

I agree with looking into some anti-anxiety medication,
But also try to learn some new coping skills along with it! One thing that I find helpful for me is to keep my hands busy. Drawing, sewing, writing with pencils, that sort of thing. And doing something I enjoy that keeps my hands busy has been helpful. Also keeping yourself busy with art projects, stories your writing, things you want to create with your hands is very helpful because it keeps your mind so full that you don't have the time to think about cutting. |
