I switched from various activities, trying to change my habit. I tried writing, then switched to TV, then tried writing again. I went from one thing to another in an attempt to distract myself. In the end, I lost

Sometimes it's about the little victories of being able to stave it off for a bit.

I'm sorry Poppy. Imo, similar to what MdngtRain said - I think that the fact you even recognized that you should try to avoid giving in (never the less TRIED!) is a major accomplishment. With each time it may get easier and easier. So, it didn't work out this time. It's okay. We can't win every time - you live and you learn. It takes time. You've already proven that you're stronger by simply recognizing that you can distract yourself. Great job for being so amazing! And much hugs! Next time, you'll do even better i'm sure - but i'm proud of you for just how much you tried this time.

Have you considered medication or therapy, by chance (if you haven't already). Maybe try drawing a picture of yourself and what you want to do instead of actually doing it? I know that sounds like a weird idea, just a thought. I hope you can get past these feelings of yours of wanting to self harm. Stay strong!!!!

There's always something to be gained. Yes, it might have been a loss at this point, but the fact that you've tried shows progression into a more positive alternative. Which, in my opinion, would be great!
A lot of people struggle with this, and I did as well. But there's always hope for the future. Perhaps next time you'll win. Perhaps next time, you'll be victorious and overcome what is troubling you. Just put faith in yourself and believe you will win. And eventually, I assure you, you will.
