I've been thinking about cutting for the last several days. I've held myself off because I hate the way it makes me feel self conscious when I'm being intimate with the guy I'm seeing. He is supportive and understanding, but I'm sure that's not something he loves to see.
Right now.. I want to do it. It's calling my name, and I'm having trouble saying no, despite any vain concerns that I may have... Help?

First of all, congratulations for holding out - it is a hard thing to do and you are doing really well.
Hang in there. The urges do pass. It takes time but they do pass. Keep thinking of the reasons you have not to SI. Is there anything else you can do to distract yourself - contact someone and talk? write? draw? read? Something that can help you to focus on something else and relax. Thinking of you ![]() |

Hi, JanuaryGirl. Mazing brings up some really good points. The longer you hold out the easier it gets. I know it takes a lot of will power at this point but you are doing great. Stay safe.

One day at a time............. You made it this far - that tells me you have the *fight* in you to get through today. Then we can start over tomorrow.

I failed. Last night I did it. Some are pretty deep. Last night that made me feel proud, but now I feel disappointed and like a failure.

Well, think of a good coping skill. Maybe take a jog or something like that. Self harm is hard to get pass by but you have to remain strong.

You did not **fail**. You had a small set back.
So, hit the reset button and start over. No big deal. As long as you are safe - worry about the details of "it has been X days since I self-injured". It is just a number - YOU are the thing that matters. |

Thanks everyone. I've only been on these forums a short time, but the support I've found here has been absolutely amazing.
I went up to visit my best friend in a different city, and will be staying with her for a few days, with hopes that will help keep me safe. I've left my psych a few messages about needing to talk to her about my anti-anxiety meds, but haven't heard from her yet. Soon, I hope.

The reasons to self harm are many. Reasons to live are obviously many more. Sure you cut, sure you will have more scars, and sure you are disappointed. But most importantly, you have not failed, because this one more post you have shows the many more fighting breaths you have in you to stand back and simply say I am alive!
Though I may not have the same brand or size shoes as you, I have a pretty good idea as to how uncomfortable it is to walk in them and seeing your scars. Honor and take care of yourself and your scars because they will inspire you to get through these dark times of yours. |
