Any advice on how to cover up new fresh wounds on an area clothing won't cover.
I need to know how to keep the cuts concealed? |

Where are they that they can't be covered up? Hmm... bracelets for wrists, long sleeves for arms, long pants for thighs/legs, etc.
I think that the hardest thing I have trouble hiding is my ankle because pant legs lift and shoes come off, and its not like i'm wearing stockings. For that area, I tend to cover it with a cheap eye shadow. I use a light gold shimmer to kind of blend it (also depends on your skin tone) so it doesn't look "masked". Also, depending on the size, a simple bandaid (available in different sizes) usually doesn't get any attention (most people don't say "hey what's under that bandaid?). I have learned that depending on how fresh the wound, its almost less obvious when I don't cover it up. For instance, bracelets tend to draw more attention to my wrist than just wearing the open wound or a bandaid/pulling my sleeves down because I don't usually wear bracelets. Also, i make my biggest effort not to cut in visible areas, but I do understand that sometimes its just not that easy (or in my case i realize after the fact that its more visible than I thought). Good luck! *hugs*

Teal has a good point about braceletts calling attention to the wrists. Part of the problem is that you know how the cut occurred. Unless there are horizontal stripes going up your arm, for all anyone else knows, you could have cut it opening a box or tripping and hitting something.
This may sound calloused, but self injury will eventually be noticed, and there are two choices. Stop the behavior or accept the fact that people will notice. I have my share of scars and have had people ask about them. (kind of rude in my opinion), but it goes with the territory. Long sleeves and other attempts at hiding things don't always mean scars. I have a friend who has psoriosis. I've never seen him in short sleeves even in the hottest weather. There are also age spots, scars for reasons other than SI and birth marks. Any one of those things can be noticed and asked about. Just because someone doesn't SI, doesn't mean they don't have their share of secrets that they wouldn't want others to know about. Do the best you can within your limitations. Sam2 |

i am very anti-dishonesty - but I would probably opt for the "it was an accident" or "I was moving something awkward/heavy that cut me" type excuse.
It is one reason I only cut in places that CAN be covered. I hate, hate, HATE myself if I lie. I am going for 1000000% honesty all the time. |

It depends where the cuts are, but sometimes skin-colored band aids actually work really well.

I tend to cut where it can be concealed. Used to cut on my wrist where the lines are.. So that when it heals it blends in with the lines.
Agree with teal though!
