I've been through a really bad patch lately, and have just cut the deepest I have ever gone. I can see a lot of fat tissue and it's slowed down in bleeding, but after about 30mins it's still bleeding a bit...My question is, when should cuts get stitches? I've googled it and I still have no idea if it needs them... I'm too scared to go to the hospital as I live with my aunt and she'd freak out if she heard me leave or whatever and I hate needles... I'm just so overwhelmed and scared and I don't know what to do

Does anyone have any tips to stop? Anything to do instead? I'm so sick of this horrible habit, especially after almost 8 years...:'(

I do not know the 'medical answer' to your question of when to get stitches.

I guess my answer would be - since you needed to ask.... it is probably time.

Since it is still bleeding, I think you may need stitches. I'm sorry, I'm scared of needles, too.

Honey...please take care of yourself. That's too long to be bleeding. Find the courage and go, ok? Keep us updated!

good luck. I hate needles also, but maybe they would be able to help you connect with other services that can support you in stopping?
if you still really don't want to go to teh ER, you can make sure you clean out out (antibacterial washes without alcohol work well), then use a piece of surgical tape or butterfly tape to close the wound. Keep an eye on it. If it starts to ooze or swell, visit a doctor. Keep it dry and clean...

I hope you change you mind. I needed stitches for some that I totally flunked out on, bandaged then up myself and pretended it never happened. Im now scarred for life, if I had gone and got them sorted I would have got away with wearing shirt dresses and shorts in the summer! Have a think about it, think about what you are leaving for the future recovered you... you still have a choice

I had a cut like that a while ago. I didn't get stitches because I was trying to hide it and I ended up with a fat, ugly scar. I'm sure stitches would have made the scar thinner and less noticeable. Are there bandaids that hold the skin together instead of just covering it up? If so, those might help reduce the scar.

I just googled it. Butterfly bandages might hold it together.

For future reference Super Glue stings but it works. Just clean it really well. You don't want to glue in any germs.
