I can't cut myself for a couple more months, otherwise they'll kick me out of job corps. After a lot of thinking, I've decided I'm going to start cutting again after I graduate. I'm not proud of it, but only because I'll be lying to my girlfriend. And it hurts to even think about that.
![]() So, what do you think I can do while I wait? I just don't ever want to stop. Sorry. |

Sometimes, I find certain songs can help get through urges.
Especially if you listen to them with headphones, quite loud! My faves are 'hurt', Jonny Cash, and 'Spanish sahara', Foals. These are probably not your scene at all, but if you can find something that seems to tune in with how you're feeling I think personally that's more helpful than, say, calming or chill out stuff. |

I always say, think long term.
I think it's pretty admirable that you are not wanting to lie to your girlfriend, truly I do - because I take honesty as the best quality in any relationship. But beyond that. Okay, so I understand what you are saying about after you graduate ... But what about 5 years from now? You don't want to be using this as a form of relief forever ... You won't be able to hide this from your girlfriend forever, and your morals will make you feel guilty probably when you do start doing this again. I'd suggest some kind of completely new activity that you've never done before - ever. To utterly throw a left hand curve ball your way so that you're distracted by this utterly new thing. Try googling "adventure activities" in your area. Sounds crazyyyy. But it can be heaps of fun. There's a place I take my kids where you play dodgeball on trampolines ... for real ... I've jumped too (adults play against one another during certain hours during the evening) ... but there must be something out there that you haven't tried before ... hey I even dabbled my hand in ceramics and painting ornaments with my daughter when I took her for lessons - took my mind off things and I was suprised that I actually enjoyed it - it's something I'd never tried before. Whatever avenue that you find, may it be the one that serves your mental health well in the long run ![]() |

We have to stay on campus at all times in job corps. So there's no way to do any local activities. Once my arms are all used up by the cuts, I'm just going to start burning my torso. Of course, all of that is going to be just a bit at a time. And then once they heal, I'll just open them up again. I started drinking, smoking, and I'm starting to get into drugs as a "waiting game" for when I'm able to cut again. I'll probably just cover everything with makeup. |
