im still not sure whether or not to go to a therapist. i SI and think about suicide but im scared of what the therapist would tell my parents because they are the primary reason why i SI and feel like committing suicide. i dont know if because im 16 that they have to tell them or not.

Well not to scare ya but when a therapist finds out information about a person like if there doing drugs, planning to hurt someone else or self, or anything like that its the law that they haft to tell ur parents... Now its much easier to have a therapist talk to ur parents with u in the room than it is for u to talk to them alone.. at least ur therapist would be there to tell them the needed info.. It was more easier for me to have my T tell my mom.... I would recomend u go to a therapist... even though its scary to talk to a therapist, it is nice to have someone u can talk to...

I don't know enough about what happens in therapy relationships when the child is a patient. I know that when my daughter who is 14 years old sees her therapist I do not get any information about what is going on in the session. It is kept private between her and her therapist. However if she is in immediate danger I think that changes. I wish I could find the paper that we signed when we got our daughter into therapy but it is gone now. As a parent, I would want to know if she was in danger so that I could help keep her safe.
