Memory Mess-Ups and Senior Moments

Sometimes my memory gets to messed-up that what happens is beyond a Senior Moment. Like, I can remember that I had a whole conversation with someone about a particular thing, but I cannot recall at all what agreements we came to on the subject. All I can recall, vaguely, is that we did discuss it at length. However, the details, all the whole thing really, is gone from my memory. All that remains is this foggy idea that, yes, we did discuss that, didn't we?

Then there are the true Senior Moments. Those are something like that I put the Drug Store on my grocery list, as one of my grocery items, so when I came back out of the grocery store and had to embarrassedly admit to the bus driver of the Senior Van, that I forgot to mention that I needed to go to the Drug Store, I get some backflash from him and a snide comment about how he is going to have to ask more detailed questions about where we need to go from now on. (Then he had to re-track everything in his computer) and then we get to go back to the Drug store, which we had just passed, on our way to the grocery. UGH!

To me, Senior Moments are smaller forgetfulnesses and Memory Mess-ups are when your mind kind of just balls up into a huge mess, that is impossible to untangle. Does that make any sense?

So please feel free to share any memory problems that you have encountered here, small, medium or large!!!

Any caregivers here, who are caring for Dementia patients are welcome too! If it has to do with memory, tell us about it! PLEASE!!!

i have found that it is possible to improve memory (recall) impairments, and to delay any of those 'medical' reasons for memory (encode) loss.

i used 2 particular methods, one is called 'Binaural Beats' and acts directly on the brain to stimulate the 'connectors' or ganglia which facilitate both encoding and recall (they are actually 2 separate things).

i have also been using computer games which challenge me to make connections directly, such as Bejeweled and Hidden Objects. i do jigsaw puzzles and crosswords, too.

about 26 yrs ago i was poisoned and had severe memory damage, that is just now responding to my efforts, after many other repairs have been made. so i am convinced that it is better to save what you can while you still have it, than to have to rebuild it.

best wishes~

I'm sorry this happened to you. I'm glad that you have found some helps.

I spoke to a Dr. yesterday about it and he told me that depression can be a cause, so since I have been depressed lately, I had to agree that, that could be part of it, but I do know that I have had the beginnings of it since I was in my mid-30s, when I was exposed to Lyme Disease. Ever since then I have been dealing with it to some degree, as well as brain fog and confusion and also time just rolling up into a ball, from which I can only say, "I know this happened, but I cannot tell you how long ago or where I was when it did (unless something specific from that environment stands out in the memory).

I do play a free computer game on a website for Seniors whenever I can. I usually play it at least once a day. It is a simple game, but it sure cannot hurt!

I'm to the going into a room and wondering why I went in there stage sometimes. But while I'm in there, I'll try to come up with something to justify it!

I've tried to leave stores without picking up what I purchased before!

Yes, when I do that going into a room thing and can't figure out why I am there, I go back to the room I was just in and it will usually come to my mind why I went into the other room. Now if I can just keep that thought in my mind long enough to get back to where I was and take care of whatever business I was going to take care of there!
