I heard on a TV show last night that 911 people can immediately track landlines for a location, but not so with cell or smart phones. They can only get the general location from them as they triangulate from cell towers. Another reason for a landline!
Thanks for this!

They are supposedly "working" on this, as many other things that need attention.

Mum got a call. There’s a charge of 399,98 to her card if she cancels now they will only charge her 39.99. She didn’t know what it was about I told her it was a scammer they were trying to get her info! So she hung up. Geez they never stop. A lot of them mum simply yahoo’s into the phone. It’s funny but ya know there’s no human on the other side it’s all computers now.

I've heard people should never answer "yes" to questions such as "Can you hear me?" Somehow the scammer can fiddle around and make people seem to say "yes" to the scam.

Yes, they can record your saying "Yes" to later claim you authorized something. I never answer the phone unless I recognize the name or number. If someone I know is calling from an unfamiliar number, they know I won't pick up unless they start talking into my machine.

I don't open emails or texts from unfamiliar "senders", just delete them. Don't answer the door unless I recognize the person through the peephole. Not even "Who is it?"

In Texas I didn’t answer the phone at all. Everything went to voice mail. I only answered the door when I knew in advance who it was. My apartment sent advance notice when they were doing work or maintenance. As for emails, I must know who or it gets deleted. Now in Minnesota in mum’s house she runs to answer the phone even when it says on the tv, spam risk. It’s a pavlovian response. Here tho nobody pops in without advance warning. Mum never got much email and now no longer has a tablet.

I don't answer phone calls I don't recognize either. My phone system indicates robocalls and scam calls, but some other scam comes through.

Watch out, also, for attempts for "Windows" to indicate there's a virus problem and ask you to call an 800 number. It's a scam, too, Check out 800 numbers to see if they are the legitimate numbers for the organization!

Never pick up "Unknown Caller" with no number, but "Private Number" is just a blocked number that could be someone I want to talk to. (One time it just was my dentist calling from home to cancel our appointment at the last minute) In that case, I let the machine pick up. No legit company would have a non-working number on your ID. It would at least show the number they are calling from, and usually their company name too.

Landline can block up to 10 numbers so every now & then, I have to delete the list and start over. For awhile, I was getting calls from a Seattle based number that would ring 3 times and stop. I was able to block it even though phone manual says it won't work on out of area calls. But it seems to.

I don't give out my cell number to many either, even though it's smarter than landline in recognizing a scam or telemarketer number. Main reason is I don't usually have it ON most of the time. But my landline is always "on"and I'm way more accessible on it. I tell people to call THAT number but some still insist on calling cell.

Landlines are more durable. Mine has never been out of order. Always works, and no need to worry about signal or battery left or reception. Yet people prefer cell phones for everything. Cell calls will also suddenly cut off. No such thing with landline. Mine works even during a storm.

I agree with you about keeping a landline. Personally I use that number when I don’t want telemarketing calls. We don’t ever answer it. But when we’ve had power outages we have a working phone ! But it also has to be a landline. Cordless ones don’t work without power.

I get calls from scammers no matter what number it is. They somehow get a hold of both. Cell phone is "smarter" in silencing those calls or recognizing it as a telemarketer. But I just don't answer my landline, though I found it better to let the scam recording finish on my machine. Picking it up and hanging on it didn't disconnect it. It tied up my line so that people calling got a busy signal. But I had silence, no dial tone. So now I check to be sure my line isn't "dead" from those calls.

Seems to just happen when I pick up and "hang up".
