Hello everyone, I'm very concerned about my behavior, I masturbate a day for about 3 to 5 times, I watch pornography and this is the only way I feel for a moment good, and at easy, I do not see masturbation as a bad thing, but I don´t think they way I have being doing it is healthy, I would really love to get some advises and thoughts about this, I´m not a social person and I have Post traumatic stress, I have had depression for about 10 month; and masturbate is the only thing that makes me feel "stable" for a while.

hey, YM20 - your instict is correct. while masturbation is very good at relieving stress, it's not healthy if that's all you do all day. it sounds like you need professional treatment for PTSD and depression. are you seeing a therapist? another option is going to Sexual Compulsives Anonymous 12-step meetings. there you will meet others who have similar problems - pornography and masturbation addictions - and a program that works to help you have a true life. you will also make friends there. here's a link for you: http://www.sca-recovery.org/

Masturbating is better than nothing. It doesn't replace the real thing, though.

Interesting article about the negatives of too much masturbation:

It is probable that you are self-treating depression; masturbation releases dopamine which does, in fact, make us feel better. I would find a psychiatrist and/or therapist to work with alternative behaviors or meds to help with treating my problems.

Hi Young Man,
This is "an old man"--68 years old, in fact. I have masturbated 3-4 times a week since I was a young teen ager, even though I have been married for 46 of those years. I felt guilty about it at times when I was young also, but came to realize that it is a physiological and psychological need to have sex with another human being. If one is not having sex with another human being, there is nothing wrong about masturbating. I think the key, in your case, is to not let it take the place of normal interaction and socialization with others. If appropriate sexual partners are available and responsive, then they should be your first priority. Don't let masturbating interfere with that. Even at my age, if readily available, willing, and able sex partners were around I would be "doing them" instead of masturbating as I do 3-4 times a week. Good luck!
