Define normal! lol I've heard of stuff like this before, so certainly you aren't alone. Obviously BDSM is quite a common thing. I'd just say, re. bloodletting, be safe. That is to say, make sure your tool is steriled properly and it is not really a good idea to do this with strangers because of HIV and other blood things, but I'm sure you have your own common sense there.

It isn't neccesarily that, it is just the guidelines the BDSM community really live by. As someone that is involved in BDSM and is a sub in a domminace and submissive relationship those guidlines are in place to keep everyone safe. BDSM is all about trust and respect for the mutual parties involved especially in D/s relationships.
