Does any woman get leg cramps in connection with clitoral orgasms? I had a really bad one last night - in the right leg. Would have screamed if not for the thin walls in the apartment complex. The cramp lasted for a minute or two, at least (when you have serious leg cramps, a minute feels like a really long time). The right leg still feels a little stiff in a painful way.

I get those from time to time, and in general have a tendency to having leg cramps (possibly genetic - my mom and maternal grandma would have them regularly, and not in connection with orgasms to the best of my knowledge). I know that in their case they were painful, frequent, and lasted for a long time.

I had leg cramps when pregnant with my first child. I was told to eat potassium-rich foods, such as bananas. I have been eating bananas recently so I should not be deficient... I was also told to flex the foot really hard (=trying to stick the heel out as much as possible while pointing the toes towards the body as much as possible and hold the foot in this position until the cramp releases). I did that yesterday, but it took awhile for this trick to work.

My grandmother and mother would prick the calf muscles with a needle to release the cramp. I do not know if that is an old wives tale though. Maybe should ask my doctor.

Why do they occur before orgasms? Do I need to relax more to prevent them (yesterday I had a day full of unexpected events and was just trying to masturbate before bed to speed up falling asleep and forgetting about the stressful events, so I was not relaxed at all)?

I know they are not dangerous - I have been having them for over two decades, from time to time, and still alive , so they are not dangerous, but just... painful! Yikes! Orgasms are a good thing - I do not want to mix them with painful cramps...

I get leg cramps as well, but can't say that I've had them in connection with orgasms. Flexing the foot works for me, as does standing up (which is basically the same as flexing the foot, but is sometimes easier). I usually get them in the middle of the night and am woken up from a dead sleep.

Now, as far as your leg cramps go...are they only with clitoral orgasms and masturbation or do you get them with a partner? It could be a simple matter of positioning. If your leg ends up in an awkward position to accommodate your hand or arm, that could be enough to trigger the cramp. Try using the other hand or changing your position completely. Hopefully the cramps will go away (and you can have fun trying! )

Usually, with masturbation - I think I might be squeezing the muscles too hard. I will try standing on the foot next time - I can see how it would be the same as flexing but easier, because my body weight would help keep the foot in the right position. Thanks for the tip!

I think you tighten muscles and that's what causes the cramp. (Agree with your above statement)

You could try masturbating slower so you control your legs tightening a little more...or stretch your legs before you start?
Thanks for this!

The position may restrict blood flow to your leg muscles.

Anyways I have leg cramps without the fun, and potassium supplements seem to keep them away.

I was thinking of supplements, too. Can you buy them separately just to get the potassium? I normally do not use multi-vitamins. Although right now I am not eating much (apparently, low thyroid-->low appetite-->yet, weight gain) so maybe a multi-vitamin would be a good idea.

I will try. I think it is because of tightening too much too soon.

I would be very very leery about taking Potassium supplements. It can cause severe heart problems if you have too much. Actually, I've heard more about taking Calcium and Magnesium for leg cramps than Potassium.

Here's something that may help:

thanks dragonfly... I have read more and would get calcium/magnesium Floradix, because I have some other symptoms (outside of sex) that, apparently, can signal a deficiency in those.
Thanks for this!

Does your partner know? Does he take it as a compliment?

no, he does not.

Suppose I tell him. How would it be a compliment to him? Say, I might very well have calcium and magnesium deficiency as dragonfly pointed out. How is my being deficient in nutrients a compliment to him? It is my internal issue.

That's assuming you have the deficiency, which you don't know.

Cramps suggest more powerful orgasms, which he could take as a compliment to his skills.

no, the orgasms are the same - not more powerful.

I have loud orgasms, so he is being plentifully encouraged by the intensity of my voice. I do not think he needs more boosting. But thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, you can get potassium on its own as a supplement (the chelated kind is easier to digest) An extra glass of orange juice or a banana works too.
Thanks for this!

Actually, getting the right amount of potassium is beneficial to your heart
Potassium: Heart Benefits and Side Effects

I have older relatives who are heart patients who have been prescribed potassium

Oh, absolutely. Too little Potassium can be just as dangerous. I would feel much more comfortable with it being prescribed than to have someone taking a supplement unsupervised. There's a very small range for a normal blood level. Too high or too low can be fatal.

I will ask for a blood test. I was going to anyway, because I know I do not eat enough (I have low appetite due to low thyroid - have to MAKE myself eat). This has been going on for several months, and by now I might be low in a number of things.

OK this is going to be embarrassing, but yes, I frequently get leg cramps when I orgasm. Especially when I'm on my back. I think its just the position and me tightening the muscle and keeping them like that.

When I was anorexic I used to eat a bit of banana because I thought the potassium would at least keep my muscles going.
