G., my bf, tried to take my bra off in a way that seemed threatening to the life span of the bra. I said: "No, let me take it off and put it on hangers - at $80 a piece just for 6 months, the bra is too precious for me and I am not going to let you tug on it.

I do not do what Nordstrom recommends in terms of hand-washing the bras, but I do place each in a separate cylinder mesh bag and wash on delicate in Nordstrom's lavender wash and hang on hangers to avoid squishing or placing one cup inside another (a no-no), so I do 90% of recommended care instructions. With that much maintenance and cost, the bras are the most expensive items in my wardrobe.

But it is totally reasonable for a man to take clothes off his woman without her saying: "Wait, this one is too expensive, so let me take it off myself CAREFULLY first."

I guess I need to buy a special bra - just one - that I would put on before he visits and let him do whatever he wants, and not wear the bra at all, and for that kind of a "play bra" I would not care about the quality, support, fit, smoothness under clothes etc. rather, I would care about how it looks and nothing else. Which leads me to think that it needs to be a scarlet red. And, I want to surprise him. So I am posting a poll with colors for men and women to vote. I did not include "nude" because I do realize that it is boring.

actually, come to think of it, all my childhood reading the Three musketeers and the like I pictured riding horses and wearing corsets, but since then a neurologist friend of mine who treats people with spinal injuries following falls from horses has convinced me that riding horses is unsafe. That leaves me with safe corsets, right?

I personally think black is a great bra color (in my *tons* of experience, so...grain of salt ). It looks great contrasted against lighter skin tones, IMO.

I love the colour red, but scarlet sometimes seems a bit too vivid. Personally I'm fonder of slightly darker reds, or even wine-coloured. Why are you considering getting just one bra? Perhaps I'm indecisive, but I'd get maybe two or three fairly inexpensive ones in different colours, and switch them around according to mood.

Something I've wondered is whether men even care about the colour, design, etc. of the bra. Lots of women's websites stress the importance of lingerie. However, with the men that I've been with, the clothes come off too quickly for anybody to really notice what the other person is wearing. I think lingerie can be very, very pretty although my boyfriend says that he simply doesn't "understand" them. This made me lazy, and deterred me from ever investing in lingerie for sex...

Seriously, I don't think men care too much....a black sheer bra is a hit and men LOVE garters and stockings....personally I prefer them for comfort anyway.

But corset's make you look GOOD.......They do wonderful things for a woman's body. Meet him at the door in that and a slinky robe and he'll blow it right there

As a woman...I don't care for red or white...but my opinion on that wouldn't matter, would it?

Ok, so:

1) the poll winner is Black. So be it.
2) Nordstrom is a chain of expensive high quality stores with unlimited return policy in the states. Sorry Illegal..., I know you are an Aussie, and I should have explained.
3) psychehedone - I cannot wear inexpensive bras outside, because of my size. I am 36G, and cheap stores such as Target (Illegal - an American chain of decent but inexpensive stores) do not carry beyond 36C. They either carry small band/small cup bras, or large band/large cup bras (think 44G), but my size combination, which is medium band/large cup, is not available. That is why I buy from Nordstrom, and, really, I only shop for shoes and bras at Nordstrom - everything else comes from Target/Ross/Nordstrom rack. I find that bras and shoes are the hardest items to find the right fit for.

I do realize though that for greeting a man at the door I can buy a cheap bra that does not fit exactly right.

Because I am so freaking determined to get you in a corset....

Elomi Maria Convertible Bustier Bra EL8502 at BareNecessities.com

And yes, they have your bust size.

It's an investment that's well worth it....

P.S. the website has some lovely stuff anyways.

For cheaper ones....I can send you the link to that too but they size differently.

Traditional white is my preference, and for some reason I can't take a woman's bra off using both hands, one handed it's simple.

Lol, try my wife's. Heck, half the time she can't find her own way out, much less me figure it out ...

Hmmm... fun thread but as someone mentioned... it may not be important at all. I've honestly never thought of bra colors as far as I can remember. Maybe as an adolescent but if it had been important I think I'd recall.
Hope it makes him happy

I guess men look at it a little differently. I sure as heck know that, in my case, the sexier I feel, the sexier I am

Don't use me to base that observation on
To me it's kind of like a Christmas gift would be. I may acknowledge that the wrapping is nice but the thought and gift are where the significant feelings come from.

Yessss! I will get it. And the model even looks a bit like me, being a brunette with full lips, so I think I can pull off that look, and, most importantly, this picture plays off her earrings... and I have just had my ears repierced (the holes grew back many years when I stopped wearing earrings due to the completely unmanageable stress level then present in my life). It is perfect - strapless and earrings works SO well together. The boyfriend, when I had my ears pierced, said: "I got used to your breasts, but the earrings are so new." - so with this corset "breasts and ears" will work together. Should work like a charm.

I will get it once I am satisfied with their return policy, because sizes vary so widely from brand to brand that you never know...

PS the majority of people clearly prefer black, so, to make a wise investment (who knows what other men might be around in the future), I will buy a black corset.

Sophiesmom - thanks for the site in general. It is refreshing that they have models of different sizes, including those who have, well, a bit of flesh in the thighs. Nothing wrong with being super skinny, but when it is presented as a standard for all, it gets absurd. This site presents a normal variation in women's shapes and sizes.

Kudos....

Yes, sizes do differ dramatically, and if you can, order a couple sizes and return the one that's no good.
This is actually a "wearable" corset as opposed to a V.S. "playtime" corset...

P.S. panties go over the top of the garters...nobody models them that way but, yeah...
